502828 2006-11-29 01:28:00 I was on the d-link aussie site and there is a NZ firmware update to update the dsl502t router to adsl2+. it says you should check if the firmware is compatible with your isp dslams first. it says it will still work with normal adsl. my question is, will my broadband connection have higher download speeds if i update? lance4k (4644)

502830 2006-11-29 06:04:00 The speeds wouldn't be any different. The max you can connect is 7.6mbps jermsie (6820)
502831 2006-11-29 07:43:00 will my broadband connection have higher download speeds if i update? No. When Telecom starts offering ADSL2, then you could potentially have speeds up to 24MBit. However, if your current connection suffers from a local bottle neck, ie. you can't achieve the current ADSL max of 8MBit, then it will make little difference. maccrazy (6741)
502832 2006-11-29 23:33:00 hey does the 502t router protect me from hackers? Because it has a NAT. does a NAT act like a basic firewall? lance4k (4644)

To a point.

Doesn't stop you getting malware by deliberate download though.
