504037 2006-12-03 23:52:00 Hello, I need a little help with my project.

Does anyone know how I can allow a group the right to create users? I only want to give them this right rather than Supervisor where they can do anything.

Also, how can I allow another group the right to update user details? I can add rights to change things such as fax and phone numbers, but is there an easier way to allow the group the right to update any details of a current user?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

504038 2006-12-04 04:32:00 This is exactly the sort of task which has to be totally secure, and performed only by a system administrator. ;)

There will be a way to do this, but I am sure that it would be a Very Bad Move. :(

WOW, I havent played with NDS in awhile, last version was 5.1 something.

I'm not sure of the structure anymore, but would presume that you need to give a nominated group rights on the OU. Microsft has delegation, does NW have similar?

504040 2006-12-04 06:35:00 Primarily I'm in agreement with Graham but in a large organization I could see the benefits in a system admin delegating responsibilities to OU a supervisor.

Ive never used console one (don't like it) but in Nwadmin these rights are referred to as property rights. As to applying them to group, (this where I agree with Graham) I can see security issues especially if a non group member is made security equivalent to a group member therefore inheriting all rights pertaining to that group member.

504041 2006-12-05 08:48:00 Hello, thanks for your input.

What I managed to do was simply give a group the Create right which enabled them to create users in an OU. It did, however, allow them to create anything in that OU but I still got top marks for my project so it's all good.

The other group I gave the Write right which enabled them to change user details.

Just incase anyone really wanted to know....
