| 503835 | 2006-12-16 05:57:00 | SolMiester This is my version of DirectX: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) I play HL2 with the graphics settings that it recommends, typically mid level for everything. Can't give you exact settings because Steam is playing up at the moment so I can't play at all. I shut down all internet security programs before playing unless I'm playing online. Running the Steam diagnostic program results in passes for everything except for Apache servers. I run the Windows Task Manager and end all instances of Apache, but it is still begin detected in the diagnostic results, am I doing something wrong? On my notebook I'm runing the free version of ZoneAlarm which is being detected in the diagnostic results, can anyone tell me how to set it up correctly? I've allowed permissions for all instances of HL2 and Steam as far as I can tell. I would loose ZA, it really is a crappy firewall and certainly a top suspect. I "personally" remember a few years back it would disconnect me every few minutes off Battlenet even after giving it full permission. I know there are many ZA lovers in this forum that will defend it till there dying breath, but "most" have never tried another decent firewall so in my opinion aren't qualified to recommends it. Even for argument sakes, uninstall it and enable your windows firewall (temporarily, not saying keep it), just to eliminate ZA. |

If he P2P or to a "less" existent online games, then I would loose ZA, which is pretty much the advice he would receive in nearly any P2P or gaming forum. |
