1401084 2015-05-20 21:32:00 Hopefully this will make the likes of Orcon less likely to throw people to the debt collectors without first looking at the problem..

When I was with Orcon I moved house, they wouldn't let me just move I had to close the account and then open up a new one at the new location some 500 meters and go thru all the credit check crap again then they still screwed up the provisioning.. No longer with them now after they wouldn't give me any more that 30gigs per month..

1401085 2015-05-20 22:22:00 I bet that Orcon are a bit red faced at the moment as well as being $25000 out of pocket. Good on the soldier for pursuing the matter. Mistakes like this can ruin innocent parties lives. Orcon needed to get it right.

1401086 2015-05-20 23:26:00 Baycorp featured on Fairgo last night.

2 things that weren't mentioned:

If the debt is in dispute, Baycorp can't pursue it.

If you don't pay your debt, it will be listed for 5 years.
If you do pay your debt, it will be listed for 7 years.

(Yep, backwards I think)

Reality: Baycorp will keep and pursue it longer than that.

1401087 2015-05-21 00:51:00 The big thing to learn from this is that should you receive a demand for something in error that you need to get it sorted out as soon as possible even if it costs you to do so. Just ignoring the matter is not an option. Particularly with a large firm or a government department the sort of person who is handling your initial denial of a debt is probably going to be fairly junior and if they just throw it back into the system the whole matter can quickly escalate to being a very real problem. The Fair Go episode demonstrated that. CliveM (6007)
1401088 2015-05-21 02:57:00 Vodafone / TC arent as bad when you move house.

When I moved from Mt Eden, they were fine with it. They even gave me my Mt Eden phone # when I moved to Sth Auckland.

When I moved from Auckland to Taupo, it was pretty straightforward. Didnt have to close the account then open another one. Just moved, the phone was connected, that was it

Only thing Vodafone tried to do was charge me for a late payment. I said I've never paid you (since I've been on Telstraclear), before the due date. They said good point

And waived the $17 fee (I think it was) for late payment. It's been fine since

Cant remember going through any credit checks when I joined Telstra. Because I told them I didnt have a job. When they were door knocking

1401089 2015-05-21 05:09:00 $25K will be chicken feed to a company as large as Orcon.

Its the bad publicity that will be hurting them more than the fine.
