1400025 2015-05-05 00:11:00 According to the media (www.nzherald.co.nz), more people streamed it for free on their smart phones than paid $99 US to watch it... which kinda makes sense. If you can find a cheaper way to view i then why not :) Webdevguy (17166)
1400026 2015-05-05 01:19:00 If the 2 boxers didnt get paid their umpteen sqillions of dollars (+ %'s ??) , the fight wouldn't have happened
So the promoters etc need to get all those sqillions back & make a big enough profit to make it worthwhile to take the risk, hence the highish cost of PPV
Concerts can cost $100+ , so just was is too much, for a one off event ?

Pay per views are allways pirated , been like that for 10+ years. Those who pirate, probably wouldnt pay anything if they couldnt pirate .
So my answer is an absolute YES, and NO .

1400027 2015-05-05 01:26:00 49 in nz plod (107)
1400028 2015-05-05 01:30:00 The fight in question was not worth $99 (US or NZD). And yes Plod is right it was $49 NZD on Sky Arena. Was one of the most boring fights I've watched and fotunately my brother wanted to watch it so bad he's paying for it. However I would happily pay $99 to see Joseph Parker knockout Money Bill Williams!!! lordnoddy (3645)
1400029 2015-05-05 01:42:00 Depends how much you enjoy watching that sort of thing, not worth .50c to me. dugimodo (138)

I was busy working so didn't watch it. The price put me off. I would say that if you don't want something to be pirated then drop the price. If you refuse to drop the price then don't complain when it does get pirated.

1400032 2015-05-05 02:11:00 So a high price justifies piracy?

Get real!!

1400033 2015-05-05 02:13:00 $49 Sky. Too much.
It's normally $39.

And that fight? Husband is a boxing fan but couldn't see why the hype, 2 smaller, not too tall, older guys.
He said Parker any day - he'd slaughter them both in 5 seconds.

I saw the snippets on the news, to me it looked like a bit of a cuddle at the beginning and then a fair bit of dnacing by the dark guy with just a few smacks at each other.

I'm not a boxing fan, but....Parker any day.

It's not about justifying stealing its about making piracy less appealing, and if you reduce the VOD price to say $9.99 a lot less people would feel the need to watch it via alternative sources.

Music downloading has gone through exactly the same transition from 1998 and numerous file sharing sites to the iTunes store to sites like Spotify and Pandora. Each transition was painful for the incumbent traditional body.

I don't know whose expectations the fight lived up to.
