| 1400489 | 2015-05-12 23:35:00 | I went home again this morning to check things over... discovered another missing item (I'm sure there'll be more in time)... a pair of binoculars. And also realised how the low-lifes got into my shed without breaking into it... cunning baskets! I simply needed a larger padlock to prevent how they accomplished this. I'm still a bit taken aback from this invasion, and hope our fellows who experience the same manage to overcome the distraught of the invasion when or if it happens. I mean really... just being able to say what I've experienced is a bit of relief. I suppose I'm lucky to have lost so little really, and gained quite a bit of insight into a victim's mind. Meanwhile... from my sister's generosity, I now have a bigger and better TV. She paid for my new 39.5" model. But now I'm too scared to set it up at home! *hmm* |

My car was broken into 6 times in 8 months (radio, speakers, spare change, a t'shirt, Lynx can and a pack of gum- nothing major but still) and it didn't lock at all afterwards! Not worth paying $300+ to get the barrels fixed though. It really does feel like you've been invaded. I guess you can be thankful that very little is gone and you weren't home at the time because it could have been worse and you wouldn't be able to tell us about your experience. It's also horrible that Police don't take robbery more seriously. Highly likely they'll never be caught. |

All thats needed is a strip of thin metal. And some door deadlocks can be opened in less than a minute with a blank key (I wont go into how) . Just really really bad design. From some top of the line brands . Luckily , the more stupid crims dont look on youtube to find out how. |

| 1400493 | 2015-05-13 03:11:00 | Some advice, thieves that target things like TV's often return after a month or so giving you time to make an insurance claim and replace the items so they can steal them again. They know the house, that nobody is likely to be home at certain times, and how to get in so it's a preferred target. After my first one was stolen I decided to wall mount mine and put better locks on my doors but they still stole it a 2nd time. The 3rd break in though they didn't bother so I think I finally managed to make it not worthwhile. They also ignored all my PCs each time, I guess desktop PC's are too much hassle for them. Upshot is, prepare for the worst and think about what happens if they come back. Yes it's an invasion and affects they way you feel in your own home for a while. I called them "people" earlier purely because what I really want to call them won't get displayed on the forums. I got new neighbours after a while and they are home a lot and have since had years of no problems, I think these low lifes were using the neighbours driveway and taking stuff over my back fence. I went home for lunch one time and spotted a guy running down the street kick a ball across the road and into my front lawn then run in to get it. He saw me coming and buggered off but I've always suspected it was someone checking to see if I had a new TV to steal. I see no logical reason to kick a ball across the street and have to run after it other than an excuse to enter someones property. There's a park down the road if all you want is to kick a ball around. |

| 1400494 | 2015-05-13 03:39:00 | Little (or big) Sebastians! It's all our fault, you know, simply by working for a living and actually paying for goods. Once we were one of the few homes in our area not having unwanted self-helpers. We think the only reason is that we shared a driveway with some people who owned a very large dog. Sam, the dog, would come and stand in our entrance for a greeting and a pat from us. I like the tracker suggestion. Things won't improve until those who do get caught get some real justice. I can well imagine how you must feel, Greg. It's not just the material things but having your peace of mind shattered, as well. I have known people who couldn't stand their own home after they had been robbed. |

| 1400495 | 2015-05-13 06:44:00 | When I first moved to Napier 50+ years ago, we never locked any doors. Things have changed and we usually lock up although I have been known to have a senior moment and drive off without putting the integral garage door down. Neighbors are getting used to us by now though and come over and close it. Ken :) |

| 1400496 | 2015-05-13 11:02:00 | That tracker doesn't seem very useful. It needs to be in bluetooth range of a tracker app to be found if I'm reading it right. Good for finding your keys in the house maybe but unless the thieves use it themselves unlikely to find a stolen item. | dugimodo (138) | ||
| 1400497 | 2015-05-13 20:14:00 | Do you guys reckon it'd be helpful if I put some stickers around the place saying "You're unwelcome"? :stare: Marnie's and other comments are helpful, thanks... I do feel seriously uncomfortable being back at the house. And yeah, I've bought a new TV, but hesitant to set it up at home, Dugi, so for now it sits in its box at my friend's house. The cops haven't yet contacted me to get fingerprints, so what priority are they giving, given that serious crime isn't having much success at being resolved? More *sighs* Seems to me that being a "minor" victim of crime isn't anything to be fussed about. |

| 1400498 | 2015-05-13 20:51:00 | Looks like TrackR relies on whats called crowd GPS ie using other TrackR devices to relay your item's location and would say in Napier or Hastings you may be the only user of TrackR but you could drive around streets hoping to get a fix on your phone You can get Simcard GPS's quite small now but may not be suitable for items like these |
