1400217 2015-05-07 21:06:00 Nothing to do with them, closed due to low prices for coal.

Finally, some sense...

1400218 2015-05-07 21:37:00 All of our commodities are taking a beating, don't think they will regain their lustre in a hurry either along with the worlds other commodities

We'll have to setup a Tesla battery making plant here on the West Coast.. Looks like there could be some future in that..

And putting all your eggs in the Chinese economy. The Ozzy mines are having a hard time as well for the same reason..

1400220 2015-05-07 21:42:00 all economies are doomed to failure by design. the sooner you lot quit thinking about economics and start realising abundance for all, the sooner we get off this rock.

i mean the sooner we can return to the stars.

1400221 2015-05-07 21:48:00 The greens must be (quietly)applauding the shrinking of the coal production on the Westcoast. The public expects now that they help to come up with solutions for the families who are having to find work and income. So Greens, let us all know what you propose. Not dreaming, real solutions. No PC games creation suggestionsand yet the national government wants to open more land for unprofitable mining. Greens probably have a point plod (107)
1400222 2015-05-08 02:21:00 Its the old story of pushing an old product well after its used by date! Their coal is not in demand, but gas, petrol, and clean burning briquettes are. Think outside the square and produce something which is in demand. South Africa has been producing Petrol & Diesel from Coal since the second world war, and the Germans before that. We have the same mentality with the Farmers. Initially it was wool and disgusting Mutton, now it is Milk Powder. We can get fuel from milk, plus a lot of other by products. The truth of the matter is that Solid Energy has been mismanaged for years, and should never been allowed to get into the state that it is. Meanwhile, New Zealand imports coal. mzee (3324)
1400223 2015-05-08 02:25:00 New Zealand imports coal. nothing new there
NZ's been known to import Meat and Dairy too over the years. Send the best stuff overseas for the best price, we get left with the floor sweepings. Its business what can you do.

100% on the solid-energy mismanagement

1400226 2015-05-08 06:22:00 It is the govern at fault, it always is.
When I arrived here in 59 you couldn't buy nescafe or margarine or all sorts of things, they love to interfere without any understanding of the ramifications.

They make theses decisions and when you look at these jerkoffs you can understand why the world goes from one catastrophe to another.
