1401178 2015-05-22 03:16:00 It fitted perfectly

I checked dimensions before I bought the card but I wasn't sure about the power connectors along the top edge. But they turned out OK.

Only the EVGA brand, at 111mm wide, will fit this case (as far as I know). Asus was certainly too wide

My master plan is to upgrade MB and CPU to Skylake in a year's time. Getting the GTX 970 now was partly to get an instant performance increase (the card will still be a good one in a year's time) and partly to see if the case, power supply and mini-ITX form factor would be suitable for Skylake. Yes on all counts. The Silverstone SG08 case comes with a 600W power supply incl 2 x graphics power connectors

1401179 2015-05-22 04:22:00 itx is cool, not sure why more people don't build them. I had a SG06 (I think) with an EVGA GTX760 in it that looked very similar.
Having said that I find my PC is growing again, currently using a mATX tower case with an itx board so it's in between.

I think blower style coolers work better in those tight confines if you can find one but it's unlikely to matter in the real world.
Mine had an i5, 8GB RAM, 2 x hdd & a slot loading Blu-ray as well. Wondering why the hell I didn't keep it now.

I also have a cooler master itx case that's just a little bigger and is easier to fit a full size PSU and optical drive in but the cooling is not great.

1401180 2015-05-22 20:49:00 Hmmm.
Airflow won't be so good.

I bought a rather large card once and while it just, barely fit into the existing case, it was so tight I changed my case.
Better to have a tidy cable arrangement and plenty of room for decent airflow.

1401181 2015-05-23 08:48:00 When I installed the card I couldn't see any way of fitting the fan assembly so I left it off. I figured that with the case off and the MB exposed to the outside world I couldn't possibly have a temperature problem.

But I was wrong - the CPU temperature quickly hit 102°. So I decided to lie the fan assembly loosely on top to blow some air in the direction of the CPU - and it was then that I saw how to fit the fan into its correct position

The CPU now settles in the mid-80s on my normal not-too-demanding jobs. It seems the fan that comes with the SG08 is a very good one

But you are right pctech, airflow is the weak point. My options are to put in a better cooler (there's plenty of space above the CPU stock cooler), put an exterior "suck-out" fan on the far side of the case, or fiddle with the fan characteristic of the graphics card. At present the card's (second) fan only comes on at 65° - I could change that to 45° and make both fans go at full revs. Or something

1401182 2015-05-23 09:21:00 Trouble is if you crank up the fans and cool down the graphics card all that heat gets pumped into the case, which is why I mentioned blower style coolers. Apparently it comes with a duct and you can get a 2nd one as an extra, maybe that'd help. dugimodo (138)

Because then where would I put my 6 HDDs, 3 ODDs, floppy drive and 16-in-one card reader?

Change the case.

Attach them via USB :p

That would be slow and messy

1401187 2015-05-27 09:08:00 I think your PC is a bit overkill for a HTPC...guessing it's not it's sole use but you like the small form factor?

Recently changed my HTPC's out for Raspberry Pi 2's. Best thing I've ever done computerwise. Now just need to find a use for the Athlon X2 640 systems I know longer need....
