504826 2006-12-07 06:19:00 Hi there Guys and girls . I have a mate who is having trouble with Windows Media Player . We can get sound but no pictures on an assortment of videos . WMV, AVI and others . I believe that this has been installed by a corrupted up date from windows that tried to install itself and then hung . How can I remove all codes and then replace them with another package .

System is running Windows XP, Windows media 10 with a windows media player 11 update .

I have removed all media programs and updates and tried to get it back to Media Player 9 but nothing seems to work

HHEEELLLPPPP!!!!

Please post your thoughts and ideas . Anything appreciated .

Tim

504827 2006-12-07 07:52:00 Get kLite Codec pack. It will uninstall current codecs and reinstall if need be and also install most known codecs used :) trinsic (6945)

504829 2006-12-10 02:08:00 CaptinMoor, the BSPlayer included with the KLite package (the free version) is supported by AdWare, which many anti-spyware packages identify as Malware.
Also, I've heard quite strong advice against installing a general purpose Codec pack.

Just FYI. I have no opinion. :-)

I use WMP.

504831 2006-12-10 09:24:00 Use VideoLAN Client, it has its own statically compiled decoders / encoders. It just simply works ;) Chilling_Silence (9)

Thats quite possible, but the other player that's included - Media Player Classic - does not have any Adware and is an excellent alternative to Windows Media Player.

General purpose codec packs can be great since you get all you need at once, but can be a pain if you install any codecs that you don't need and may cause playback problems.

I have not had any major problems with K-Lite pack over the past few years and there was no spyware or malware detected - just make sure you get it from a reputable site :)

504833 2006-12-10 23:03:00 go here:

www.microsoft.com

down and install windows media player 11. Then play the video in it, and make sure she's connected to the net,cuz if media player can't find the codec it'll download it automatically. If it can't,right click on the file, and choose "error details" and it'll tell you what codec is missing. then type in the missing codec in google and download it.

504834 2006-12-11 00:29:00 Just this morning on KFI640 ( . com/main . html" target="_blank">kfi640 . com) radio here in the Los Angeles area, Leo LePorte commented that WMP11 was not a good idea to get at this time .

I too have not gotten it as I hear it has a lot of DRM issues in it that will not let it run certain videos that you either rip or buy or even create yourself .

. . . . just a thought . . . but I am running WMP10 just fine and have many codecs loaded . . . even get RadioNZ (http://www . radionz . co . nz/), trying to understand what youse guys are saying . . . just for fun .

KFI URL: . l1977144512 . c19771 . g . lm . akamaistream . net/D/814/19771/v0001/reflector:44512" target="_blank">a814 . l1977144512 . c19771 . g . lm . akamaistream . net

RNZ URL: mms://202 . 7 . 7 . 90/rnz-natrad

<plug these into your WMP URL list . >

The story as I see it is that WMP11 is a real mess and not worth the change .

504835 2006-12-11 01:08:00 autechre, I'm not knocking K-Lite or the GSPlayer . I found the player had more features than many others, and there wasn't much missing from the Codec pack .

I'm on Win98 so I stay away from the more advanced WMP versions . I like WMP Lite and Classic .

When I strike a codec problem I've found that GSpot is the most useful way to get details . (I haven't tried much else, though, because GSpot did all I wanted . )
I put a shortcut to GSpot in my "Send To" folder, just to make life a little easier .

If I had something that supported the latest Media Players I'd be only too happy to let the system look after the details for me . Under Win98 I have to do some of the houskeeping myself, and I'm no video expert . I let GSpot tell me what to do .

. headbands . com/gspot/" target="_blank">www . headbands . com
. headbands . com/gspot/v26x/quick_start . html" target="_blank">www . headbands . com

As I said, I don't know a lot about the later versions of Media Player under XP . It's quite possible that they do all Codec operations automatically, with no need to identify the oddball ones .
