504774 2006-12-07 01:11:00 Hey all.

Looking to upgrade my PC in the next few weeks, courtesy of Quay Computers in Welly, or even do something totally pointless and irrational and buy a Tosh laptop through DSE....

I am reading a lot of "Vista Compliant" and "Vista Upgrade".....now I know what Vista will be, but before XP was released I don't recall reading such things.

Visa is the new OS, right? When released, you'll buy it and bang a DVD in and it installs.....right?

So what's the big deal about PC's needing to be compliant and upgradeable?

And why is there a banner at the top of this page asking if I'm Vista ready??...and I go back to click on it...and it doesn't come back :annoyed:

As always, grateful for any advice.

Cheers
TM

504775 2006-12-07 01:15:00 If you want to use all the features of Vista, expect to pay a large amount of money for a capable machine.

Windows XP will be fine. And when you have had enough of it there should be some really user-friendly Linux OS distro's (e.g. ubuntu) to move to later.

Therefore forget about VISTA. I am.

504776 2006-12-07 01:16:00 Because although intallation is through a disc, you still need to have a computer or laptop to meet the minimum specifications of Vista. Vista is the new Microsoft OS and to use all its capacities and effects (Aero) , you will need a decent computer and graphics card to do so. beeswax34 (63)
504777 2006-12-07 01:26:00 And some applications will need to be upgraded to be compatable with Vista .

IIRC there was a Vista compatability checker application on last months PC World CD .

504778 2006-12-07 01:27:00 so.......it's not so much compliance than......compatability?

Compliance infers an agreement to a process or policy.....what you people have said seems to be different to this....

Guess that fits in with the "upgrade" comments I've seen.
