AVG is still free :) (its just the old version 7.1 that is expiring), they just have a new version out 7.5 (which is also free) – see: free.grisoft.com

In fact version 7.5 is available to download now.
Version 7.1 will be discontinued in the new year - therefore you won't be able to update it.

Get 7.5 - you can update it tnow too - I have just done so for a lady round the corner....

It could be the wording of the notice that pop up saying that AVG 7.1 is expiring in Jan.

Answer: shut down then Uninstall old version. Download and install new version.

Thats apparently too much for some and I am rushing about doing it for them...
