505134 2006-12-09 19:27:00 I'm an XP/Vista skin user. :D pcuser42 (130)
505135 2006-12-10 00:40:00 I get Vista Ultimate Edition through MSDN academic alliance via university. So I'll upgrade when I go back next year. I'm in no rush however... DangerousDave (697)
505136 2006-12-10 02:38:00 I wonder what Windows Vienna will look like... pcuser42 (130)
505137 2006-12-10 06:39:00 follow the trend. developer (4447)
505138 2006-12-10 19:43:00 Voted for Linux as that is the closest to Mac OS X. maccrazy (6741)
505139 2006-12-10 20:44:00 Wonder how's the new direct X going to be. :p Might be great for games. That what they said for versions 3,5,6,7,8,9. and also Windows 95,98,XP, etc. I take everything these M$ marketers say with a "truckload" of salt these days. KiwiTT_NZ (233)
505140 2006-12-10 22:45:00 I'm still with windows 2000 on a P3 laptop 600Mhz. Bro has winXP. Only got that like less than a yr ago. I'm sure its Sempron can do it without the fancy graphics and stuff but why the bother, OS is just an OS. Its not going to provide me free games or industry std software. Maybe I get it for games support but we have not got a vid card yet. Anyway its not my PC. Nomad (952)
505141 2006-12-10 23:13:00 Windows 95 was good enough for me too. :D pcuser42 (130)
505142 2006-12-11 01:44:00 I once did a 3DMark01 on a Windows 2K and Windows XP machine and the XP was faster. Maybe they had optimised more code from Windows 5.0 to 5.1 KiwiTT_NZ (233)
505143 2006-12-11 02:14:00 Vista has been a long time coming and has built a mass of critical as well as promotional banter to which many valid cases are made for and against the value of such a product in today's, ever changing, and diverse computer market.

At the end of the day one has to remember that a modern pc user expects a lot from their operating sytem.

In terms of functionality, there is an isane amount of diverse gaditry on the market today that can be cuppled with the pc to perform all manner of things a modern person may require.

With the arrival of cheap computer parts, better and faster technologies, more diverse and dynamic mulitmedia divices and mobile technologies, the average user these days has many choices available to them as to what they require from an operating system.

Personaly, I don't think that one os could possibly cater to the needs of the modern computer user and their network of friends they have, using whichever gadit they use in their neck of the woods.

And why should it? It's not like we don't have options, alternatives, solutions...it's just not going to be all under the one button labled "do it"...(all though, you'd probly be able to google a script to create one:)

If there's one thing we're not short of these days it's options.

For the most part it's either a Unix variant ie: linux/mac os or an windows varient ie: 2000/Xp or such....or in a lot of cases, a mixture!

These days we can get os's that can boot from all manner of devices and are already surrounded and using differnet os's in different gadits or while connected on our computer to the internet.

So perhaps it's a matter of what do you do on you computer and what you use to get it done.

For me it's:

Email
Webbrowsing
entertainment: music, movies and such.
burning
networking

And for me the winner, hands down is puppylinux....no question!

But will I use vista when it comes out?..of course..if the computer I'm running has it and if it works, I certainly wouldn't buy it for myself, there's no need, not when there are free alternatives available :O)
