505159 2006-12-09 23:50:00 I've had a reply from

Here it is in full.

Dear Alan,

We have 4 servers that provide the podcast files - 1 each in Auckland,
Palmerston North, and Wellington and a Fourth in the USA. The server you
get depends on where you are and who your ISP is. In your case I suspect
it'll be the one in Auckland, but I have checked all the servers and the
files are there.

Can you send me the exact error message you get please?

I may also need to get you to run a trace route to the server for me, to
see what the problem is. Do you know how to do this (I'll send
instructions if you don't)?

I have fixed the typo on the access page as well...

regards,

Richard Hulse

My conclusion: It's my chair/keyboard interface problem. :-(

I'll keep trying.

505160 2006-12-10 00:27:00 I think the problem is with Ihug.
When I connect with them I can't download any of the MP3 files.
Connecting with my normal ISP it works fine.

Ping and trace to podcast.radionz.co.nz is fine like your result.
When trying to download a file get an error "can't connect to host".
Safari (3993)
505161 2006-12-10 00:58:00 I cannot download that file either using Firefox, none of the servers work for me

If all else fails, you should be able to play the .asx (link) streaming file from here, but don't ask me how it works as the servers listed in the asx file don't respond for me either

www.radionz.co.nz which is the file preceded by[VID], and then re-encode it using something like Windows Media Encoder, or an mp3 encoder etc.

_________

After I sent my Error page, along with a Ping and a Tracert of podcast.radionz.co.nz he replied:
________
Thanks, for that.

It looks like we have a fault in Auckland - the server is running OK,
and as you found you can ping it, but it is not accepting connections.

Our streaming guys are looking into it.

Richard
________

It looks as though there's an intermittent fault (maybe a loading issue), and it's picking on me (or maybe IHug.) Sigh.

I'll try again later.

505163 2006-12-10 05:12:00 I had no problem downloading this file. Using Xtra broadband and IE 6

One of my friends is on Ihug dialup and he can't download files either from Radio New Zealand.

He was going to Email Ihug having already phoned them with no result.

I have given him a link to this thread that he will include in his Email.

Hopefully this will hurry things along.

I do have this file on my hard drive and can email it as an attachment if you have to have it. 4.3 megs from memory should take slightly less than 30 mins over dialup.

505165 2006-12-10 07:03:00 Thanks, folks.
I can listen to the streamed file myself without a problem. I use the free WinAmp, which won't save. The file it reads (from the .asx link) is:
mms://202.7.7.90/rnz/ntn/ntn-20061207-0941-Ukelele_In_NZ-mbr.wma

The one I'm trying to download is:
podcast.radionz.co.nz

It does look as though IHug is the problem. I'll contact them myself as well. The more people who squeak, the more chance of the good oil.

I'm trying to download rather than just listen because I want a couple of retired school teacher friends to hear three separate files of interest, and they'll expire from the server on 14th December.

Tomorrow I can try from a Paradise.net account. It will be interesting to see what happens there.

Cheers,
Alan

505166 2006-12-10 07:58:00 Update.

I did a clean reboot and set up my downloader (GetRight) to try to download the MP3 from my IHug account. After 20 minutes, the log file showed 20 reports on the minute of "No data received."

I then set up a connection from a friend's Paradise account. Twelve minutes later, GetRight said:

2006/12/10-20:27:13: Finished downloading: podcast.radionz.co.nz
2006/12/10-20:27:13: Elapsed: 0:12:02 (Ave. 6.1K/sec)

We now have multiple failures through IHug, and multiple successes from other ISPs, including (in my case) identical hardware and software.

It might not be 100% proof, but it walks like a duck and it talks like a duck. I don't think we have an elephant in a superb disguise.

I'm off now to make certain suggestions to IHug.

Thanks to all. To those who offered me access to their downloaded file, many thanks but I can now get them all myself. The offer was appreciated.

Cheers,
MistyCat
