Security is a big hype for Vista - it is more secure than XP SP2 (and maybe linux, and [dare I say it] Mac)

From a quick google search:
eweek.com:Symantec Report: Vista Code Contains Security Loopholes
By Matt Hines
July 18, 2006

A snippet from the full report:

Symantec researchers reported finding three different types of potential flaws in Vista's underlying software code, including the presence of stability issues that could cause the operating system to crash when presented with attacks that utilize malformed files to deliver their payloads.

Other issues include undocumented IP protocols with no known purpose in the product and problems with some new protocols deep within the operating system's so-called network stack.

505125 2006-12-08 09:52:00 The security side of it is just that: hype

Its not *all* its cracked up to be and would need a lot of re-writing from the ground up.

They're making huge leaps and bounds in the right direction, but I fear it may be too little too late :(

505126 2006-12-08 19:34:00 Only when I am forced to which will be:
A)DX10
B)No drivers for hardware for XP

I'd say A will happen first

505129 2006-12-09 04:25:00 All these sort of posts came out before the release of Windows XP. How many of you still running Windows 98SE or ME.

 Come to think of it I don't see my hardware have 98 or ME driver. And my old XP(Got it in 2002) doesn't have my new SATA HDD detection too.
 How does the games run on 98 or ME?

505133 2006-12-09 11:18:00 I wonder how Vista for schools will work - All NZ public schools get unlimited installs of the main Microsoft products, but from what I've read about their new activation process, it won't work for a lot of the smaller schools.

I'll upgrade eventually, but I see no need to upgrade any time soon.
