505601 2006-12-10 14:57:00 I will appreciate advice on the two problems:

1-Firefox has a high level of "FireFox not responding" events. Am I doing something incorrectly?

2- If I load Google desktop, within minutes there is a pop up that offers to install "Photo Gallery". There is no such application on my machine. When I remove Desktop the event does not recur. By trial and error I have (apparently) isolated the offender to the download operation (there is no other use on any application that causes the Photo Gallery pop up to re appear.

Because I like both applications, going back to MS software applications is not a welcome option.

thanks for any assistance

Firstly, I suspect the Photo Gallery is Picasa (http://picasa.google.co.nz) which is part of Google's application collection. During installation, did you notice you where given an option to customise the installation? It may be that you have selected to also install Picasa.

I see Google Desktop also has a photo gadget (desktop.google.com) that downloads images off the net for a slideshow. Make sure this gadget is disabled and see if the popup messages go away.

Regarding your Firefox problem, do you mean not responding when trying to load a website or the actual application? Have you checked to make sure all your extensions have the latest update? You can also try running Firefox in its safe mode and see if the problem continues.

505603 2006-12-10 20:03:00 Hello Jen, Thanks for the information .

re "not responding" the program fails to take action of any kind when that event is announced . The frequency is not great but highly annoying . I sense this is not a common occurrence .

re Photo Gallery: The program's attempt can not be turned off by clicking "cancel"-it repeats and even after the "X" is clicked it will (in a moment return) . Too nearly like the behavior of a worm .

I have simply used the Google start page in lieu of the desk top . However I have copied your comments and will give them a try .
