505502 2006-12-09 23:51:00 I run Win XP2 and have sorted my quicklaunch list by name. Now I want to be able to move some of the items but they just go back to their alphabetical order. How do I disable this sort? bpt2 (6653)
505503 2006-12-10 01:04:00 This may be not what you mean, but when I had trouble keeping the icons in the Quicklaunch tool bar in the order I wanted, I prefixed their shortcut names with 1,2,3, etc in the General tab of the icon Properties.
Then they stay in that order in the tool bar.

505504 2006-12-10 03:29:00 That is of course an option. But I really want to be able to move the menu items around without changing their names bpt2 (6653)
505505 2006-12-10 04:01:00 Not having XP here to try this out first, but have you set your desktop icons to be sorted alphabetically? That setting *may* apply to the quick launch icons too. Jen (38)
505506 2006-12-10 04:12:00 There's some information here.

According to www.experts-exchange.com/, answering the question, "How does WindowsXP store the Quick Launch sorting order and how can I get/retreive the current order and how can I set/modify the order if possible?" there is no direct way of doing the sorting.
They say that if you're comfortable working in the Registry, then you can probably order the values here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop

I'm on Win98, and my QuickLaunch icons stay where I put them. :-)

505507 2006-12-10 05:54:00 All I wanted to do was to undo the "sort by name". I ended up doing a system restore as it all looked just too complicated. bpt2 (6653)
