506389 2006-12-13 06:39:00 Hi all, I've got a really annoying problem... my 'net connection keeps dropping, sometimes when I'm browsing online, or downloading all of a sudden my connection drops, msn disconnects. I get msg's saying that the pages can't be found. It's especially annoying when I'm playing online games...
It all seemed to have started around a month ago when xnet was having network troubles as listed on their site, but now they seem to have none as I looked to see if anything was up. I can't think of anything that I have done to my network settings to affect this, as I have done nothing. Anyways, as I said I have a BB connection through xnet ,I'm on their old Xtream 10GB Plan. I use a D-Link 302G BB modem, as supplied by Xtra.

anyone have any idea what could be up? or how I should approach this?
Thanks in advance!

506390 2006-12-13 06:55:00 It's Xtra. I'm having the same problem again... totally random and the only fix is restart comp (or complain). Shortcircuit (1666)

Yeh, I've been having the same problem (with Xtra) for more than a week now.
I think that they are saying it is because of the increased volume of Spam.

506393 2006-12-13 09:05:00 I've also been having the same problem for the past few weeks. The modem disconnects several times an hour. maccrazy (6741)
506394 2006-12-13 10:19:00 Same problem here. Not only that, there's a problem with the UPnP capabilities of the modem, DHT firewall, disability to access websites at times.....punks.... qazwsxokmijn (102)

506396 2006-12-13 19:22:00 I guess I should add that I'm with Xtra, but probably using the same modem as you because it is the one I got from Xtra when signing up. Based on the thread someone linked to, it sounds like the modems might be the problem. :) maccrazy (6741)
506397 2006-12-13 22:46:00 there's a problem with the UPnP capabilities of the modemI had similar issues with ihug, turning off upnp solved this .

I tried three modems(Netgear, D-Link, Dynalink) all had the same issues .

At times when it went down I could not even log into the modem, requiring the power to be cycled to fix .

506398 2006-12-13 22:59:00 I am getting a sort of disconnection with Orcon, like the IP address goes to 0.0.0.0, when there has been no net activity for a while, but the connection is remade when the net is accessed again, or maybe after trying twice, but anyway after a second or two.

I found if I run my email program and set it to check emails every 15 minutes, then there is no disconnection, like keeping a dial up connection alive.

I haven't had disconnections during actually doing something, like downloading, or browsing.

So, it may be worth trying that and see if there is any improvement.
