506322 2006-12-13 01:49:00 I recently installed a Western Digital 200gb HDD. Using Western's tools I copied the entire content from a 20gb HDD to the new one.

Everything went well until I decided to update the Office 2003 from the MS update site. "Office cannot update as the MS installer Version has changed and now won't allow for Office updating nor for the Office to be removed".

It seems that the .msp files contained in Windows/Installer folder have not transfered across when I copied from the 20gb to the 200gb.

Does anyone have any ideas to correct this other than formatting the 200gb and reinstalling all of the system again?

How can I copy the .msp files safely in the future?

Bryan.

506323 2006-12-13 01:58:00 Not a good idea copying from one hdd to another . Unless u ghost it or something .

As it wont find the info in the registry, like what its doing for Office .

You may have no option but to format or find something like Ghost . And ghost the 20gb first .

506324 2006-12-13 02:24:00 Indeed you need to make a clone of the hdd on to the new one .

Acronis make a program that should be ideal for your purpose called Acronis Migrate Easy 7 . 0 ( . acronis . com/homecomputing/products/migrateeasy/" target="_blank">www . acronis . com)

The Trial version of Acronis Migrate Easy is fully operational but works only for 15 days:thumbs:

I've used the acronis partitioning product many times and have had good results .

506325 2006-12-13 02:28:00 The Western Digital disk tool is probably a cloning tool but perhaps MS Office knows that it is on a different drive to the one it was activated on. If it is an activation issue then Ghost or Acronis will also have the same problem. PaulD (232)
506326 2006-12-13 02:42:00 Mmm maybe that is the case, that's a bit nasty.

I'd be interested to hear how MS help&support would advice a paying customer to proceed with that issue....wouldn't you?

506328 2006-12-13 04:24:00 First you could just reinstall Office.

Second why on earth would you want to update it anyway?
