505930 2006-12-11 22:23:00 Check out my blog and Juha's (pcworld.co.nz) for some initial feeback and tests of Telecom's EV-DO rev a cellular broadband network, launching today (Dec 12).

Incidentally, an interesting side note from Telecom's official launch yesterday: the Telecom inhouse techie who demo'd rev a described his experiences sharing files with others over BitTorrent - apparently he was pumping files so fast that others using 'Torrent would never know he was actually cruising up Queen St in a car.

Now, as a law-abiding citizen who combs his hair and always stays within his data cap, I've never heard of this BitTorrent carry on ... so I'm just going to naively assume it's all ship-shape by my provider's broadband usage policy ...

505931 2006-12-11 23:16:00 BitTorrent isn't just used for piracy - it's also a valuable distribution medium for very large, legal files (http://linuxtracker.org/), and helps the hosts save a hell of a lot on bandwidth costs. It also means that you as the downloader get better performance due to decreased contention for server resources. Erayd (23)
505932 2006-12-11 23:51:00 Great to hear another street-legal, sensible use for peer-to-peer ... though downloading a bunch of 4GB Debian files on a cellular plan could have the side effect of landing you in bankruptcy court ... Chris Keall (10417)
505933 2006-12-12 00:07:00 Would an EVDO rev better with a turbo? (For compressed files?):groan: R2x1 (4628)

I met a lady the other day who had no idea you could download music legally - she thought you had to use this sort of method to get MP3s......:waughh:
