2006-12-13 23:02:00 | Terry, you need to change the connection type to Always connected or keep alive instead of connect on demand idle 20 min etc etc | SolMiester (139) | |

2006-12-13 23:52:00 | I had similar problems with Xtra ADSL in that the connection would 'drop', I was showing as connected with an IP address but it wouldn't display any web pages or connect to email after a moment of inactivity. If another PC on the network at home was connected to something before the drop out (a game or msn for example) that connection would be alive but when they went to the browser it would be dead. I could connect to my router (DSE XH1169) via the web interface with no problems and browse shared folders on the network. The only way to get the net going again was to reboot the router and I was doing this up to 4 times a day. I recently changed to Telstra PDQ ADSL, full up and down. The connection was stable. I recently tried the Dynalink RTA 1320 modem that I got free and is also stable, but the Dynalink actually connects faster than the DSE one (in line speed up and down and based on speedtest results), so I'm leaving that in place.

2006-12-14 01:45:00 | Terry, you will need to go into the router settings to check your connection preferences Ok, in case you dont understand that, bring up a dos window and type ipconfig /all at the dos prompt. the ip address for your default gateway is your router address in most instances, so close the dos window and from your internet browser type in the gateway ip address, password dialog box will appear, admin/admin, and check your WAN settings.

2006-12-14 02:12:00 | I had similar issues with ihug, turning off upnp solved this . I tried three modems(Netgear, D-Link, Dynalink) all had the same issues . At times when it went down I could not even log into the modem, requiring the power to be cycled to fix . Turning it off? I need it for my Azureus!

2006-12-14 03:19:00 | Terry, you will need to go into the router settings to check your connection preferences.................. Of course, I said I was thick this morning, as you say 20 minutes inactivity is the default setting. That explains a lot. Thanks.
