506018 2006-12-12 01:44:00 I once had this system:

AsRock P4VM800
Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz
2X IDE Ultra ATA HDDs
1X DVD-RW
9600XT 256MB
1GB RAM

Some random 250W PSU.

After a week and a bit of heavy gaming, the damn thing blew. Literally. Fire, popping noises, the smell of melting copper....ain't a pretty thing.

Sure, the 9600 cards should only draw about 25W of power, but 250W just isn't cutting it.

What's all of your system specs? That way we can point out approximately what you need.

506019 2006-12-12 01:53:00 Why be so negative, there must be lots of computers on office desks that are using 250W PSU.

Yes but they don't have graphics cards in them.

506020 2006-12-12 02:27:00 PaulD, it's not about being negative. It's more of a matter-of-fact thing, that you simply can't avoid. You can't act very positive towards electronics in hopes their spirits listen to you lol....I learned that the hard way I guess. qazwsxokmijn (102)

506022 2006-12-13 23:37:00 Well I would still get something better than 250w .

Or else the videocard wont be the only thing that'll need replacing .

506023 2006-12-14 00:00:00 Maybe you could borrow 20 bucks and get a better, used PSU off TradeMe. Greg (193)
506024 2006-12-14 00:46:00 There are a lot of Dells running 9600s on small but good PSUs that deliver more than their rated output. If George2004 was to spend only $20 he would be likely to end up with some timebomb like a Hyena or similar. He should say what he hopes the 9600 will achieve as it's probable he will have to get another PSU anyway when he finds that the 9600 was a waste of time. PaulD (232)
