506746 2006-12-15 01:42:00 I am currently doing a backup by burning data to a DVD using Nero Express. All was going well until the verification part. Everything was burnt to the DVD but the verification has frozen at 20% and nothing happening. Now over an hour since verification started. I use XP SP2.

Have opened Task Manager and it shows no activity from the CPU from Nero.

Is there any way I can kick start it again to continue or do I just give up and start again. From previous experience if I tell it to stop it will not only stop the verification process but will also lose the data !

506747 2006-12-15 02:04:00 Misty, I get that happening sometimes on verify mode with Nero. I just get impatient and cancel it in Nero. If any harm has been done it's not going to affect it any more. Neil McC (178)

Hi Speedy - unfortunately at this stage there is no option to untick or to tick !
The program lacks options to make changes at the burning etc stage.

506750 2006-12-15 02:14:00 Also Speedy/Misty I use NeroSpeed to check cd's and DVD's regarding quality burns, then stick with what tests ok.

So, Neil, have had a quick look. Does this mean you are checking everything is okay separately after the burn process has been completed ? -- ie it takes away the type of danger which happens when the verification process freezes ?

506752 2006-12-15 03:51:00 Misty, on the NeroSpeed panel I usually, for a quick check that the data on the disc is ok,select scandisc with the drive selected above that, start ,and watch to see if there are any bad/damaged sections on the disc being scanned. And my DVD drive seems to find less damaged sections than the cd writer one does!!Must read the disc better. Yes, I check the disc after burning, whether it has been verified or nor.But this is usually for music cd's, the one's you can't......again! (Burnt as slow as I can.)
And the brand that shows the fewest damaged sections in all my scans is the brand I stick with.(Sony,Verbatim) I check the odd data one.

506753 2006-12-15 04:14:00 Hi Misty,

I don't think I have had this problem before and I use the verification so I'm wondering whether you do have a corrupt file somewhere there. The other possibility is that you have copied a file that is in use but usually Nero just says the verification has failed, it doesn't just stall.

Try burning the disc without verification then use CDCheck (www.majorgeeks.com) to verify the disc afterwards and see what happens.

Hi Foxy
Will do.
thanks
Misty

PS - I am using a Verbatim disc (so Neil will be pleased !). Funny thing is have just been out for one hour plus and have come back to find it is now showing 21%. Looking at the "mem usage" in Task Manager it is increasing -- is that significant ?

506755 2006-12-15 09:14:00 Somewhere not too long before 7 hrs 19 mins had elapsed the total verified went to 22%. Now after 8 hrs 38 mins it is showing 23%. At this rate even if I leave on overnight it will not be finished by morning.

Also have got a message the the Virtual Memory is too low and the virtual memory paging file is being increased. Seems that there is probably a connection ??
