| 506517 | 2006-12-14 07:41:00 | Hi, just had a call from my son in Aussie - he cannot start his laptop (about 2 mths old). Turned it off last night after downloading Windows updates but it wouldn't go this morning. Here is a picture of the message that appears before it jams: imagef1.net.nz He has tried Safe Mode & Restarting In Last Known Good Configuration but the same thing happens. Unsure of exact model of laptop but it is an HP with Duo Core precessor (1.6ghtz?) with a 20" screen. Anyone have any idea whether this can be started by any means or if he should think about taking the HD out to try and save the date byfore nuking it. Thanks - Peter |

Thanks, had a look and I can see where they are coming from. I don't know if it matters or not but he wasn't trying to install XP, just start it. No disc to try and use the Recovery Console (installation files on hidden partition accessed from icon on desktop :groan: ) Getting shop (Harvey Norman in Melbourne) to fix is like say goodbye to all the data on the drive ;). Cheers |
