508284 2006-12-20 10:17:00 not my own dvd drive
but i think this drive s a liteon SOHW-1673S or similar

it can no longer write cds successfully
when burning with nero or burnatonce both fails
if data cd the disc after being burnt is unreadable
if audio cd the disc can be..well.. half read..
you can hear some audio but with loads of clicks and pops and random hiss sorta stuff
just mucked up audio pretty much

dvd writing is fine and reads fine
so is cd reading..but only burning not working

um..one more piece of info
this dvd drive is connected on secondary ide and is set to master
on the same channel a hdd is connected as slave
i know this might slow the hdd down (?)
but shouldn't stop the drive from writing cds..right?

if anyone got any ideas i'll love to hear them

508285 2006-12-20 19:09:00 Put the burner on secondary Master.

And the hdd on Primary Master.

If you've only got 1 hdd and 1 burner.

It may make a diff.

508286 2006-12-20 20:17:00 the computer got 3 hdd and 1 dvd-rw
so how should that be arranged?

508287 2006-12-20 20:17:00 Not sure about this, but aren't there different lasers used depending upon if a CD or DVD is burnt? One of them might be faulty. Jen (38)
508288 2006-12-21 04:13:00 thought about that
the weird thing is how if the cd laser is damaged..it still manages to read..um..

508289 2006-12-21 04:34:00 I think a burner has 2 lasers. One for reading and a stronger one for burning.

Which is why it can read, if its still under warranty take it back and replace it.

508290 2006-12-21 10:23:00 ic..so would that mean a dvd writer drive have 4?
one for dvd read then one for dvd write
then cd read and cd write?
or is it cd/dvd read one laser
cd/dvd write one laser?

just out of interest..the above questions..
