510032 2006-12-27 13:16:00 I know this probably isn't the type of thread you want here, but it's got me excited.

For christmas my parents gave me my first computer, so I can have one at University.
* AMD Sempron 64 3000+ (s754)
* MSI K8N Neo3
* 1gb DDR400 (1 stick, and 1 free slot)
* nVidia 6200TC 256mb (That's 64mb on the card and 192mb it can take from system mem if it needs it)
* 80gb Maxtor SATA (+ 15gb Quantium from an old computer)
* 17" Acer LCD (1280x1024, 500:1 contrast, 300cd/m2 brightness, 12ms responce time)
* Cool 'n' Quiet PSU (one of those ones that keeps the fan going after you turn the computer off until it's cooled down)

It's not as fast as dad's computer, which I used to play games on, but it's got one major advantage...it's my computer! :D

510033 2006-12-27 20:35:00 Heya FM. What sort of motherboard that gives you only two DIMM slots?

Cheers :)

510034 2006-12-27 20:48:00 I think this is the mobo - MSI K8N Neo3

The mobo I put in this recently has only got 2 slots as well. But still supports dual channel.

It's a micro ATX mobo.

Asrock P4i65G. And it wasn't that easy trying to find it! There's not a lot of 478 pins around now.

Only diff between an ATX and this mobo, is this has only got 3 PCI slots.

And an AGP slot. BUT the same amount of USB ports (8) as my old one.

And this has a IRDA connection, the old one didn't have 1.

510035 2006-12-27 21:41:00 With so much stuff onboard these days, you don't really need to get a full size ATX board. You will probably not even use the 3 PCI slots on a micro-ATX motherboard, so the only downside is you get 2 RAM slots instead of 3 or 4. Greven (91)
510036 2006-12-27 21:48:00 The only things I've got on this is a firewire PCI card, tuner and modem.

And as soon as I find a IRDA adapter, that can go in a spare thing at the back.

This has got on board video, but I decided to put my ATI card in instead.

BUT, yeah I couldn't find anything else BUT this mobo in Newmarket.

So, not much I could do about it. Everything was out of stock, or the shops no longer stocked / ordered 478 pin mobos.

Nice. It's great having your own PC to do whatever you like with it. :cool:

510040 2006-12-28 22:49:00 I remember getting my first computer back in 1997/98. I was so excited that I was finally be able to do whatever I wanted with it and use it whenever I wanted. Congratulations Mantis!!! beeswax34 (63)
510041 2006-12-28 23:16:00 Yea speedy that's the mother board.

It's nice and quiet, the CD drive is probably the noisiest thing on it, which is a nice change from some computers you hear buzzing away.

@ the comments about being able to do what I want - It is great :), still feel's strange though being able to install stuff on there and not worry about having to ask whoever owns the computer...finally got the GIMP lol.
