509691 2006-12-26 01:09:00 Hey peoples,
Just wondering if someone can tell what would happen if I delete my only partition; would this also delete any files that I need to even start my computer?
In short I've had to reformat my drive, so thought I might have a go at partitioning. I've converted it from FAT32 to NTFS and would like to make 2-3 partitions. I assume I would need to delete the existing partition, though would this delete any important setup files?

509692 2006-12-26 01:15:00 Well yeah if u delete the main partition, I would say thats the end of anything that maybe on it.

You could if u had something like Magicpartition make more partitions. But, if u haven't got it, you may have to reformat and make the extra partitions on the install / setup screen. Before u reinstall Windows.

I would say the only way u could delete this one partition is if u formatted. I don't think Windows will let u do it within Windows.

509693 2006-12-26 01:20:00 Maybe best to do a back-up, then use Gparted, or Partition Magic to handle the resizing. If you use the MS tools (Fdisk) to do the job your data and files are definitely history. With other tools they usually survive. It's a bit late now to leave your file system as FAT32 for a while, as there are more rescue tools available in case of difficulty than is the case with NTFS. R2x1 (4628)

G parted is a cracker and easy to use.You could shrink yr present partition and then divide the rest of yr drive to what ever you desire. It is available as a download to put on a floppy or to burn to a CD.It is free and very reliable.
I also agree with the comment on NTFS.
