510233 2006-12-27 22:28:00 :help: I did a reformat a couple of days ago under the supervision of my big son. He has now departed home (and is unavailable for advice in the meantime unfortunately!). Everything is fine - EXCEPT I have no sound...

When I look under Device Manager I find under Sound, video and game controllers that 'C-Media AC97 Audio Device has a problem ' and 'This device cannot start (Code 10)'. Any clues as to what I should do (other than go into a corner and scream!).

TIA as always.
Cheers
R.M. :)

510234 2006-12-28 02:58:00 Have you tried fiddling less? :p

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

510235 2006-12-28 03:07:00 Ah yes - fiddling less, probably not!

The second question - yes.

510236 2006-12-28 03:52:00 It seems that the driver for your sound card has not been installed. If it is on-board sound, the driver is usually in the Motherboard driver CD. Put in the CD and install the Audio driver and it should be OK .

Good luck.

510237 2006-12-28 04:05:00 Go to the motherboard site and find the latest drivers for it and install them. The_End_Of_Reality (334)

Ah - you are so right, and I am so greatful again!:)

For my next problem (I do quite a bit of photo fiddling) and use Zoombrowser to keep my photos in order . After reinstalling Zoombrowser - all was well for a while, but then I installed ActiveX (I think that was when the probs started) . Now when I try to start Zoombrowser, it won't and I get the error message 'Classfactory cannot supply requested class' .

I thought I might uninstall ActiveX . . . But can't figure out how to do that, or indeed how to fix the problem with Zoombrowser . :(

510239 2006-12-28 05:53:00 No Problem :)

Try re installing ZoomBrowser.

What was the ActiveX? as far as I know you can only disable them...

But to me "Classfactory cannot supply requested class" seems to be a program error related to the program, nothing else (possibly) and a reinstall should fix that

510240 2006-12-28 07:07:00 Try re installing ZoomBrowser .

Tried that (twice) - but it didn't work . :( :badpc:

I'll try asking in a Canon photography webpage as well .

Thanks again .

OK - I did it again.... This time without cutting corners - and guess what, it worked!

So again - much appreciation for you help, particularly your patience! :)
