| 509867 | 2006-12-27 00:19:00 | Have been told to be wary of buying one of these as if one function has any problems, the whole lot could be affected. Any truth in this? | 509869 | 2006-12-27 02:40:00 | Got a Brother and an Epson AIO . . . and no problems so far except for the free replacement for the Epson when it quit shooting ink onto the paper . The Brother, however, is not online except for the FAX side, and then it just uses the regular twisted pair that the phone's on too . Neither can scan slides, but my Panasonic can . . but then again, it's not an AIO . Ya know . . . I am really starting to like that Brother AIO better and better now . |

Not sure on HP, can always do a search online hp.co.nz or hp.com I think the issue is related to geneally about multi functions. MF are general machines they are not specific specialist machines so that they can never be as good as the higher end models that is just a printer or just a scanner. If you have an issue like that rare incompatibility or if Vista does not provide drivers and Epson (for instance) does not provide drivers then it becomes unusable. But any devices can happen on this incl my HP 6L printer, which has a faulty driver under Windows XP and HP does not make their own - it crumbles when you give it a complex print load such as a PDF product catalogue. So yeah if that is the case for MF, it means not only the printer does not work, the scanner as well and maybe the fax as well if you have such a model. The photocopier should work thou and the fax when they are controlled without a computer. |

| 509874 | 2006-12-27 04:44:00 | Vid card? I say some cards are better at producing accurate colors/tones. Does not need to be a 3d card, matrox are quite good for pix and videos. Builtin vid card may restrict memory if you doing intensive editing .. ie tiff format ,,,, 30mb or larger files ....... So may be good getting a real vid card cheapish .. if i not games just pix and videos I get a matrox or the like ... If you want accurate mpnitor get a hardware spyder that sticks on screen and you get a custom made icc profile but you need icc supported image software liks adobe photoshop elements, similar technique if printing and u want accurate from screen to paper. Vid card is accuracy for editing so u can see the looks of it. If you are not gonna see it and u are gonna blindly scan it and save .. vid card not impt other than free some mem from the mobo. |

One of the best things I like about my Canon MFP is that it didn't try installing an endless number programs that I would never use, unlike all the HP printers I have installed . :mad: |

| 509876 | 2006-12-27 22:28:00 | Nomad, thanks for that. This household has 3 pc's and 1 laptop. All pcs' need tossing, tooo old like myself. Wifey is into card making and selling them at the local markets, not doing too badly sales wise, but thinks the scanning/printing of the different magazine pics could be improved. She is going away for a few days over the New Year, so I will try scanner/printer on the other 2 pcs' and the laptop and see if there is any improvement. Lurking |
