509525 2006-12-25 08:40:00 My XP Windows machine is not recognising the media player - so can't update firm ware etc.

Any ideas?

I checked the manufacturer's website?

Cheers

509526 2006-12-25 08:42:00 Yeah, take it back and use your refund to get an iPod. (insert cheesy grin)

Edit: what size is it?

509527 2006-12-25 08:47:00 Do other machines recognise the device? Have you tried a different USB port? Jen (38)
509528 2006-12-25 08:49:00 have you tried a restart?
Assuming it is new and you have a receipt for it, get the store to replace it.

Does it show up on his hard drive?
Suggest he takes it back and replaces it if it doesn't show up on his hard drive.
I know some people don't like Apple products because they believe that Apple is a proprietary device company although I wasn't aware that Microsoft was a charitable opensource software company.

People how use Apple products use them because they look awesome and are simple to use, anything else is just hard work. (which is kind of what Microsoft people tend to regard as "normal")

509531 2006-12-25 21:09:00 I know some people don't like Apple products)We recently got a Creative Zen Vision M player - chosen because in the price range there wasn't any Apple product that came close in terms of features, functionability and style. Greg (193)
509532 2006-12-25 21:43:00 Just out of interest, what HD size and price was it? winmacguy (3367)
509533 2006-12-25 22:06:00 what HD size and price was it?$450, 30gigs. So now you're going to go find an Apple product that beats it? :D Greg (193)

Well there is only a $1 in it in favour of the 30GB Video capable iPod from the Apple Store NZ
store.apple.com

They are $249.00 US which actually should work out somewhat cheaper than the listed retail price in NZ thanks to our strong exchange rate.

That may drop in price after MWSF in early January if or when the updated version comes out with more storage and a slightly reduced price.

However to say that the Creative Zen is more refined and stylish than the iPod would be a matter of subjective opinion and in this case Ill go with the market leader.
