2006-12-29 20:54:00 | I would like to add descriptions to my photos so that I don't forget where the pics were taken many years down the track . It would also be useful for those viewing the photos in the future, should they still be around when I am not . This is easy enough in paper photo albums but I'm wondering what is the best way to do it for digital photos . I can add a JPEG comment to them which doesn't appear to increase the file size at all, but it's a bit of a drama going into each photo's properties to view the comments . It would be much better if the comments were able to be toggled on and off somehow . Maybe there is a image viewing program that does do that but the ones I use don't . I would rather not be tied to one particular image viewing program to create and view the comments but would prefer that the comments could be viewed in any image viewer via their Properties . What do other people do? Do you use a "photo album" type of program to add and view comments, or what?

The upside is: The info is always there, no matter what comp/program you use . You're only typing the info once . . . as a file name . When you do a file search it will include info in the file name (I am not sure Windows search puppy would include info in file 'comments') |

2006-12-29 21:18:00 | I would rather leave the file names as they are. The pics are sorted into relevant folders so I don't have any problems with finding the pics. I just want to remember that X photo was the "View of Flinders Street Station and Federation Square alongside Princes Bridge taken from Southgate across the Yarra river". Kind of gets a little too large for file names somewhat, doesn't it? :p | FoxyMX (5) | |
2006-12-29 21:30:00 | Hmm if u move the mouse over the pic, it'll show the comment/s. Just realised as well, when u move the mouse over a pic, it shows u what camera took the pic! I also noticed, that if u select all the pics in a folder, then right mouse / properties, click the summary tab and enter text under comments, what u put here, will appear in comments for all the pics, not just 1 pic. When u move the mouse over the pic/s.

I just discovered that in FastStone Image Viewer, my main graphics viewer, I can move the mouse to the far right of the screen whilst showing a pic in full screen mode to bring up the Files and Attributes information and there is a tab for displaying the comments. Not exactly quite what I would like, but it's pretty close. |

2006-12-29 21:42:00 | It does?? Which program, Speedy? XP in My computer. The folder the pics are in. No extra program needed. Go to the folder the pic/s are in. Move the mouse over one. It'll also show the resolution.

2006-12-29 21:48:00 | It doesn't with mine? Win XP Home SP2 . If I enable the "Comments" in Explorer I can see them in one of the columns whilst in Details view, but can't see them when hovering the mouse over a pic . It shows the resolution though . Are you sure yours does that? I mean for comments the user has added, not the EXIF information, which I can see .

2006-12-29 21:55:00 | I've just found this ( . sb-software . com/jpegcommenter/shots . html" target="_blank">www . sb-software . com) which looks quite good for adding comments to pics, though I reckon the FastStone Image Viewer comment editor is better . Keyboard letter D is a shortcut to bring up FS editor . Still would like to know whether other people label their pics and how they do it . Where are you Bazza and co . ? :p

2006-12-29 21:58:00 | Foxy, I've got SP1 on my comp. When I mouseover in my pics folder I get what Speedy gets; resolution info etc. If I right click and go into properties in the summary tab I can enter info such as title and comments that will show in the mouseover box. HTH

2006-12-29 22:11:00 | Hmm . . . . this is weird . One of the comments I made is now showing up when I hover over the file name in Explorer but not the others . And I can't remember which program I used to create the comment of the file that shows it . . . . :waughh:
