510824 2006-12-31 04:05:00 Hi Troopers,

I will do everything you told me, one question is I was given the disk for Office professional edition 2003, which enabled me to have word, excell etc and microsoft outlook, I was also given a product code to use to authenticate it, will they know if i download SP2 that my office version is not been brought from the shop. It was given to my by a very computer literate IT guy from work who know longer works for us, he moved up in the world.

If I knew where you all were, chocolates flowers or beer would be coming your way, Thank you thank you thank you
Have a Happy and safe new years eve, and maybe catch ya in the new year.
And I is a girl just thought i would share that.

510825 2006-12-31 04:14:00 No problem Dunno... just good you got it sorted, makes us all warm and fuzzy I'm sure ;)

The Office disc is a tricky one as the disc may be genuine and the product code from a 'volume license' or similar (where businesses have lots of copies of Office but only need one product code) I think it would be ok with SP2, but can't tell you for sure. You can just update to SP1, but you will have to find it somewhere else on the net to download and from memory it's a bit hard to find now.

Happy New Year to you as well- gender's not too much of an issue on here, some of us are even blond (although I'll deny it until shown my drivers licence) :D

510826 2007-01-02 21:04:00 Hi Troopers

510827 2007-01-02 23:00:00 I have another problem when I leave the computer for a while it goes into like a weird mode, I have to push the button on the hard drive to get it going again, what is going on dunno (1572)
510828 2007-01-02 23:03:00 Sounds like its going into standby mode?

If the front of your case has LED lights, do one of them flash, when this happens?

Go to control power / power options. See what its on under the power schemes tab. Change the bottom 3 options to never.

Usually when u move the mouse it'll come out of standby mode.

510830 2007-01-02 23:51:00 Hi speedy,

Can you answer the other question for me about reg seeker that I downloaded but it has appeared as a zipped folder on my desktop and I do not know what to to with it now.

Umm, u can double on it to extract whats in it, or get a program like Winzip to extract the files in it, then dbl click on the setup or install file if its got one, to install it.

And this:

I was also given a product code to use to authenticate it, will they know if i download SP2 that my office version is not been brought from the shop.

Installing it should be OK, but whether it activates or not, is another matter. If it has already been installed somewhere else.

But this depends on whether its legit or not. And the Office download site, now requires u to authenticate your version of office.

Before u download some of the updates.

Like Speedy says you have to unzip it first. Create a folder in Program Files called RegSeeker then right-click on the zipped file, choose "Extract files" then navigate to your C:\Program Files\RegSeeker folder to extract the contents there.

Once they have been extracted double-click on RegSeeker.exe to run the program, click on Clean the Registry then the OK button to start the scan. When the scan has been done choose Select All then Delete All Entries (or whatever it says, might be Delete Selected Items).

Quit RegSeeker and then you're done.

Ok Foxy & Speedy done that, do I need to keep the reg seeker download?
I have installed the office professional disc i have and it is running fine, should I risk downloading SP2 (do I need it) .
Also do i need to keep trojan remover and ccleaner downloads, will I need to use them in the future maybe?

No, not if its installed now, but did it need installing?

Yup it fixes a lot of probs and vulnerabilities in Office. There's actually more updates than SP2 to install, like 18-19 other updates for the main programs. There maybe more for Office XP.

Maybe if u decide to format after. But no, not if they're installed now.

You can go here (update.microsoft.com)

This will scan your system for XP and Office updates. Hopefully, you're on broadband, there will be a lot of updates to get.
