510808 2006-12-30 19:35:00 If u want to reformat u need the XP cd, if u want to use XP.

You have to reboot, go into the BIOS and change the bootdisk to CD.

Then put the CD in let it boot (usually u have to press a key on the post screen to boot from the cd) to the XP install screen.

And then just follow what it says on the screen.

And make sure u install 1 AV program, and 1 firewall program.

Also, make sure u have the cd key, BEFORE u reinstall XP.

510810 2006-12-30 19:49:00 Well if u cant uninstall / remove things properly yup.

Just make sure u have your XP CD / cd key handy. Otherwise you won't be able to reinstall XP.

510811 2006-12-30 20:36:00 The forum has a couple of FAQs on reinstalling Windows which can be found here (faqf1.net.nz) under the Basic Computer Maintenance section. If you do not have a "brand name" PC (eg Compaq, Dell, etc) you won't have a recovery CD so the instructions will differ from those in the FAQs. Read both of them anyway as some steps are common to all reinstalls.

You may also wish to check out the Backing Up Files FAQ as well, if you have data you wish to keep. And like Speedy says, you need your Windows key and also your computer's motherboard CD to reinstall the drivers again.

Whilst reinstalling is not a particularly difficult task it can be a little daunting for a person who has not done it before, especially if they do not have access to the internet to ask for more help if they get stuck. If you don't have access to the internet on another machine I would suggest that you get a computer technician to do the job. Whereabouts is your location?

510812 2006-12-31 00:54:00 I have a cd that is half white with WIndows XP on it and the other half is purple with hp deskjet on it, is this the one I am looking for.
I live in Henderson Auckland, How much do you think it would cost to do the job.

510813 2006-12-31 00:59:00 Doesn't sound like it . . . unless it is a Recovery CD? What exactly does it say on the CD? The text is printed on and not hand-written, isn't it?

Have you told us what brand your computer is? I don't recall reading it in this thread anywhere .
