| 510794 | 2006-12-30 01:56:00 | Hmm get ccleaner (www.ccleaner.com) Don't install the yahoo toolbar thing (untick it). Then run it, then click on the cleaner icon, then click on run cleaner (close browser/s). This will get rid of the temp files etc... Then delete the Java folder in C:\program files, then go to c:\documents and settings\your username \application data\sun folder (you'll have to show all files), and the Norton PF folder. See if Norton 's Personal firewall folders appear under documents and settings/your username\application data folder as well. Make sure u don't delete the Symantec Internet Security folder/s if they're there, if u want to use it. Then click on the issues tab in ccleaner, click on scan for issues. Remove everything that comes up. |

| 510798 | 2006-12-30 03:34:00 | My computer was running slow, so I tried to defrag but it would not let me because it kept telling me that chksdsk /f. needed to be run, everything I tried failed to find this program, I did run chkdsk both in normal and safe mode. I also managed to run defrag in safe mode, I have no idea whether this was right or wrong. When i tried to run chkdsk /f it kept telling me something else was using the program and did i want it to run on start up, so I answered yes but it did not run, only in safe mode. so i ran adaware and spybot, nothing much there. then i did a windows update of which i had 47 updates, wow, then i updated to Service pack 2, as i thought that windows defender might help. I did not manage to get windows defender as I got a error message. Some time ago i had a virus of which i found hard to get rid of, i am running avg free virus thingy, so i deleted the files and think maybe i deleted the program with chkdsk /f in it. I have just come on this morning and i my avg can not update saying the installation is corrupt or bad? My daughter downloaded limewire, but did not share any files, the computer was running bad before she did this, but she could not upload to her MP3 some of the songs as it kept saying that there was a unknown error in windows media player. i am totally freaking out, because i need my computer, but am not so good at the techinical side of things. PLEASE HELP, Thank you in advance Dunno!!:confused: :help:Man, how old is your daughter? Is she downloading nasty files? Like software serials, porn(I don't know for a girl but she might do that, Oh yeah, did your computer visited a lot of porn webs? Clean them up with WebRoot Spy Sweeper or Lavasoft Ad-Adware(Paid) After visiting some porn webs every computer will go sick), etc? Those are nasty. Get an reliable anti-virus to clean that up such as AVG, Avast, NOD32, or best of all BitDefender(paid version works the best). |

| 510801 | 2006-12-30 04:16:00 | Apart from this issue, are you still having problems with your computer or is it OK now? yes, it is running a bit faster, but i still can not defrag or even analyze, i can not scan disk for errors from properties in C:/, and I can not update my avg anti virus, so goodness what the heck is going on behind the scenes, now that i have deleted java I feel i need to replace it with whatever speedy told me to do a few replies back. I have been on here since 9.00am this morning tryin to figure it out, but are beginning to feel i am losing the battle, I just do not know enough.:waughh: :waughh: |

| 510802 | 2006-12-30 04:29:00 | Updating to SP2 probably wasn't a good idea if there was a possibility of virus or spyware still being on the machine. A computer needs to be completely clean before updating to SP2. I don't really know what else to suggest without actually seeing the machine but it definitely isn't OK with those issues still bothering it. Have you totally got rid of Nortons yet? |

| 510803 | 2006-12-30 04:33:00 | No I cannot delete nortons firewall, can i try in safe mode will this work. I down loaded sp2 to try to get windows defender to help me, but obviously have made things harder for myself. Should i uninstall sp2?? |
