511155 2006-12-31 08:05:00 All they need to do is fix the international capacity then things should get better.

Hah - you think so. never mind all the primitive old technology exchanges around the country that can't handle current adsl.

And:

www.telecom.co.nz
To begin with, Telecom will target the major cities and the service will gradually become available in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton and Wellington during 2007.

Bet that means the main part of the city, not the outskirts. And as for the whole country? Don't hold your breath.......

511156 2006-12-31 22:35:00 Perhaps they should fix the *cough* 'Broadband' 1st before they have a lynch mob on their hands.

LOL

511157 2007-01-01 01:01:00 so the problem as to why go large users are getting very slow download speeds is because Xtra doesn't have enough international capacity? Howcome smaller isp's like ocron etc have enough? surely telecom can buy some more international capacity? lance4k (4644)
511158 2007-01-01 02:59:00 so the problem as to why go large users are getting very slow download speeds is because Xtra doesn't have enough international capacity?

There are two main reasons (as I can guess from reading all the threads on this subject) for slow download speeds

1. There is the local slowness i.e.: users who have gone to Xtra Go large & they get bad download speed anywhere ( local or international) & don’t talk to Xtra & complain about it or they complain about it, but due to other issues no one is tell us about there speeds don’t get any better. ( & don’t forget the local network is kind off overload as well)

2. then there are the people like us who have completed to Xtra & there local download speeds have got some what better ( but no where near 7.6M) but the international speeds aren’t great, & here is where we think Xtra doesn't have enough international capacity or something more fishy is happing.

I Hope that makes some sense

Howcome smaller isp's like ocron etc have enough?

As take for example Orcon, has invested in international capacity, but not all ISP’ have done what Orcon has done & invested in international capacity.

surely telecom can buy some more international capacity?

yeath, but they don’t want to waste/use there money ;), they are money hungry :p ;)

511159 2007-01-01 04:23:00 Once the exchanges are open, any of the ISPs can install ADSL2 gear anywhere they see fit. Unfortunately, that means that the centre of the big cities, and the 'affluent' high density areas will get it way before anyone else, and at a good price, as there will be competition. Those of us who don't live in a major city may have to wait a bit.

Oh, and Vodafone and Ihug are one in the same now aren't they?

511160 2007-01-01 04:33:00 I'm still confused myself, is there still a 700mb "kinda cap" during peak hours?

Less speed is a good idea, we don't need speeds that all customers cannot achieve. Removing cap is the main goal for them if they want to follow.
