| 510864 | 2007-01-04 09:45:00 | Gosh I bet you guys will be glad to see the back of my thread, How do I know when the updates are finished, the only way i figure out that they are running is by doing ctl alt del and see that Updates from HP Agent, i assume that is it?? And when i went to internet explorer it came up with microsoft office and these critical updates that it says that i need, I am back to being very confused, which is not surprising since I have been looking at this silly computer for the last 5 days solid GRRR. I should have done my computer degree before I brought one me thinking, but to late now I stuck with something i have no knowledge how to train. |

The HP updates have nothing to do with the XP updates. And XP updates are different from HP and Office updates (they're different programs obviously) If u right mouse on my computer on the desktop / properties / auto updates, change it to notify me but don't download, you'll see a shield-like icon on the taskbar, when there are updates for XP. If this icon doesn't appear often, there are no XP updates (they've been installed). Not too sure what your las post means, they're XP files, but I don't know what the change bit means |

IT could be a false alarm, or it could be spyware. Give your computer a once over with spybot. Some spyware hooks into shell32. I'm not sure about the other system files. If you go into command prompt (start --> run --> cmd) & use the command sfc /scannow it should set them back to the originals. I think the HP updates program runs all the time regardless of if it is downloading updates or not. Best way to get windows updates is to go to the website. |

| 510870 | 2007-01-05 03:14:00 | Those entries may belong to some of the HP programs installed. Deleting the entries in SB may or may not affect the programs, I don't know. I haven't got any HP programs on these. |

| 510871 | 2007-01-05 05:19:00 | Hello again My daughter has been given an old computer windows 97, but i was hoping she would be able to put her Sims on it, but it requires windows 98 or 2000 at the least for her to be able to use Sims on it, I wanted her to get of my computer, as her Sims tasks up to much space, and she is on it for hours. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to get her of mine. |

You would be surprised how many people make that mistake. |
