Can anyone help, speaking slowly and in words of one syllable, with getting two PC's to network? Machinery is a 6 year old Dell GX150 P3, and an old Acer P1 133 fitted with an installed GE2000II LAN card. Both have 98SE fully functional, the cable is connected, and now I really need a layman's guide to settings and pitfalls. Obviously I could do a lot of damage floundering around altering things experimentally.

Thanks, bjf.

If not, u need a crossover cable to connect the 2 PC's.

511093 2006-12-30 22:10:00 Gentlepeople: Thank you for your help. Cable is reversed, and not through a hub. Will explore the FAQ and help sites as family life allows. Personally I have no issue with recycled pixels and will go out of my way for environmentally friendly pursuits, like providing a retirement home for geriatric computers. Watch this space. bjf (11296)
511094 2007-01-02 02:41:00 When the cable is pugged in you should see a green light on both network cards (assuming they have the lights). Since both PC's are Win98 try using NETBUI, its easier to install & get going. You will also have to share drives (or folders ) on both PC's. Note that you will want to find a Networking help site for Win98, not XP(its a bit differerent). steveroby (9470)
