| 511008 | 2006-12-30 06:13:00 | Hi all Over the last few days my wife has been grumbling about the speed of the net, as she thinks it seems slower than usual, I tested and found something different we are on orcons advanced 40 plan basically 256kbps down (thats kilobits not kilobytes!!) 128kbps up I have used the consumer speed test (www.consumerspeedtest.org.nz) and the xtra speedtest (www.jetstreamgames.co.nz) and my speed is coming out as approx 10 x what it should be Which is great but I have not seen any announcements about this on orcon and i am not sure it is correct Also I have checked the speed tests in 3 different browsers and done hard refreshes on the pages to prevent caching etc and for both the above tests i get 3326 Kbps on consumer and 2491.6 Kbps on xtra these values were tested on the 3 browsers and all browsers values came out about the same for each test So I basically have 2 questions shouldn't those 2 values be similar as in much closer in value, could someone else test and let me know if there is a similar variation for them between the 2 speed tests has orcon given it's customers a speed increase? | 511009 | 2006-12-30 08:52:00 | I am also on Advanced 40. and i recently downloaded a 670mb Linux Distro in about 2 hours and blew my cap. :( Cost me an extra $10. I dont know if I should complain or not. They might slow me down again. :rolleyes: Ian |
