510889 2006-12-29 22:27:00 Hi all,

Looking for some software for a relative of mine that'll do automatic (nightly?) incremental backups for him to an external HDD, or perhaps DVD / CD?

He doesnt expect the backups will be large (Although his Outlook PST file will be changing, so it could end up that it is...)

Possibly looking for something that'll compress it as well? I know that Ghost is good with compression, just havent played around with it enough to know if it does things incrementally?

He's looking for cheap / free, running WinXP Home (Might be Pro, not sure).

Doesnt the latest WinZip do something like that? Anybody used it?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Cheers

Chill.

510890 2006-12-29 22:35:00 In the latest Netguide, they recommend Syncback (tinyurl.com/5jatb) for incremental backup.

Which is a free version. And there is also Syncback SE, which is on the same site. (The commercial version).

Not too sure what the diff is between the free and SE.

510892 2006-12-30 00:07:00 Nero has a backup function as part of its suite. It can do incremental, though not sure about scheduling, you may need to use windows scheduler.

Acronis Tru Image would be my next option
