510655 2006-12-29 06:37:00 Hi, I am trying to reinstall XP Media Centre on my son's HP DV8000 Notebook without using the HP Recovery drive (and all the crap that goes with it).

When I try to install Windows Setup does not see any hard drive as I now find that it is a SATA drive.

Being a typical HP with pre-installed software, I am having trouble finding the drivers to load at setup.

Anyone have any ideas where I could find them or where to start? (have tried HP's site but no luck).

Thanks.

510656 2006-12-29 07:09:00 These maybe the drivers (h10025.www1.hp.com)

But whether the drivers for XP will work, is another matter.

I can't see any files for SATA tho.

510657 2006-12-29 07:22:00 Thanks Speedy, but no, these are not what I am looking for. These are all the 'Add-On' cr*p that comes preinstalled.

How can I tell what drivers I should be using, i.e., is it based on the motherboard or similar?

Cheers

510658 2006-12-29 07:43:00 Umm is that the notebook DV8000 CTO??

If it is, those drivers should work. If u had XP/2k, or Vista.

Most drivers are based on the brand/model of the motherboard / laptop (for the sound/LAN/other drivers).

You would have to download the sound/display/graphics/keyboard/mouse/modem/network/storage
drivers from the HP site.

Depending on what operating system is installed.

The drivers on the link I gave are required. If thats what the laptop has got. Otherwise, the sound/LAN/ etc wont work.

510659 2006-12-29 07:54:00 I have all those drivers, they have been backed up for the reinstallation.

What that site doesn't have is the SCSI/RAID drivers for when I reinstall XP Media Center. Setup just won't see the hard drive without them.

Thanks anyway.

Will keep trying to find them from somewhers.

Cheers
