511373 2006-12-31 18:49:00 When Windows gets all those updates, are they computer-specific?

I mean . . . if I have multiple XP boxes and decide to burn the root drive down and reformat and re-install, can I just use the updates that are designed for a different puter for the one with the clean install?

Are they interchangeable and useable that way?

Maybe I could share the folder with the updates from one to the other?

If I use my LAN . . is the naked XP unit safe if it's talking with the other puter sending the info?

Should I try to use a Zipdrive that is shared on USB?

511374 2006-12-31 19:12:00 Most updates will install on more than 1 PC.

Depending on whether SP2 is installed as well. As quite a few updates won't install unless SP2 (IE 7 being one of these) is installed.

I just download ALL hot fixes/updates and put them on a spare partition on this PC. That way, when I format, the partition isn't affected.

And once I format this PC (and the other PC), after I format both and install the LAN drivers, I just make a shortcut to the other PC (I create a folder and share it on both) from this one, and then install all the required updates. Then reboot at the end of it, and that's it.

Just make sure u get the right files (x32 fort 32 bit and x64 for 64 bit). A zip drive should work. Just create a folder on it, and share it.
