| 512176 | 2007-01-09 01:25:00 | Hey NOMAD i have got a connection under ISP how can i know about the ROUTER ...... how can i set the port down there where i havent got any access What color is your light? I tried it, the light is not v accurate, you may need to quit utorrent and go back in etc ... I think if you double click on it there is 2 parts, (A) choose your speed and (B), choose your port number is forwarded (your router). In my tests, if one has UPNP or not, if one person has port forwarding or not, it didn't make a diff. Why do you say you have no access? Of course you have access you can check email and open your homepage right? All that light is just a stupid icon that is all it is. If you double click on it .. a box will open telling you what the (2) parts are. I think just try it for for a week and then try it out the other way. I would just use UPNP or not UPNP and use port forwarding. The general idea is that the latter is better but you do leave a port open. I dont give a toss what it says, if the speed is ok or no diff then why fuss? The light does not check the connection, all it does is check if you port is open then it turns green. |

I can normally average between 400 and 500 KB/s on both international and national downloads with utorrent (Ihug Broadband 4 Plan 7.6Mb/800kb). The speed of your download will depend on the availability of the source torrent (eg numbers of seeds) and although public trackers can have zilliions of seeds, many of them also wont be connectable and most likely they will all be speed limiting. Also time of day was mentioned. Good trackers, max speed on your line. router and ports set correctly, right time of the day. | Term_X (560) | ||

The router was stored in a locked metal cabinet on a wall under a ceiling. In that case, you cannot do anything. I am not too sure, never tried it but sometimes they provide you a list of proxies such as pop email and smtp email and HTTP, if you go to your internet browser you may have the settings there. Under IE - tools - internet options - Connections Tab - click LAN settings - click advanced button - you may have some settings there. Try using the same proxy for it as what other ports they use (such as for HTTP). No idea if it works. If you signed up for an account with a private commercial telecommunication company or a internet company that should work. Back to my case, the provider may block ports, such as at school they blocked ports so that we could not stream videos but we could download them and view them after. They didn't give out a SOCK port therefore I couldn't use MSN Messenger I used "HTTP Tunneling" or something like that and it worked but each 15 or 30mins I would need to reconnect, it would still show connected but it was actually offline. Auto would not work as well because we were behind a firewall proxy. For us that way, a cheap way to get fast internet because fees were already paid, if a person wanted free access the other way was go dialup but slow or go broadband with a private company. I paid $5 a month for the jack only as computer fees were paid with our fees. A lot cheaper than dialup even but there was limitations. To date I don't know any PORT number tunneling software. Since you are with cable modem, here is one cable modem router instructions, I know you cannot access it but here FYI: www.portforward.com Short answer - forget it and just use UPNP. Most times shouldn't be a diff in speeds. If you cannot get any connection at all, take it that the provider has blocked ports or blocked certain applications. Try to use the same port number as HTTP as well (last resort). |

Buy your own router or just go with a modem (without a firewall) if you are a single user. Commercial providers won't block ports for that usage. My experience has been with a provider that only supplied HTTP proxy settings and incoming and outgoing email server. That is all. I had experience with MSN Messenger as I stated. You can look at the website with the userguides online .... via their support section. I tried it with some software back then .. but it didn't work for P2P. For torrents that didn't exist back then. I see that some torrents softwares has a HTTP proxy under its settings, so you can have a try I guess. I think in the past P2P didn't have HTTP, they only had SOCK which I was not provided and auto didn't work for me as I was behind a firewall. |

As I said I have not been in your situation and have never used it. My ISP does not go via a proxy server that I need to deliberate set out.... www.http-tunnel.com www.http-tunnel.com |
