| 1410578 | 2015-10-28 22:07:00 | Hi guys. We got fiber on about 2 month ago and been having terrible speeds. On the 30/10 plan we was getting about 15 up so switched to the 100/20 plan and speeds went up to about 40. Spent hours on da phone with Xtra and last week they sent out another modem, its the type they use in Dunedin for their Gb service. Speeds increased to about 50 odd and was still quite slow. Did a speed test today www.speedtest.net best speed we've had so far. Is it still worth bugging Xtra/Spark over this, or is the best we can get? Had a computer tech around yesterday and he got 39.62 & 22.60. Just been on phone, again, with outa mongolia and they confirmed we on 100/20. So I said how come I'm constantly getting max download but restrictive upload? Why is it no one can answer that? She said will escalate it just have to see what happens next. Do anyone catch the Fair Go one on internets speeds, last night? Seels waste of time complaining about internet speeds???? Be interested in your comments. |

| 1410579 | 2015-10-29 01:34:00 | As the guy from Spark on the program said, They had no complaint about it till after the guy got a invoice. SO COMPLAIN- if they dont know they cant fix it. ( mention Fairgo and watch things happen) On the Fairgo facebook from Spark: In this particular case, the customer did not contact us to let us know he was unhappy with his connection speed, and so we had no opportunity to rectify the situation. Had we known there was a problem, we would have investigated what might be causing the slow speeds (we dont own the copper network so we would have worked with Chorus who own, operate, maintain, and upgrade it) Of course you have to be reasonable about it, if it were at high usage times , like early evening, then expect it to slow. BUT during off peak, you should be getting close to what you are paying for at least in a speed test. My Plan on Vodafone cable is 130/10 Just did a speed test = 128/10.4 So happy with that :) if I tried it later tonight it would drop to about 50-60 /10 |

I have been emailing and ringing Xtra/Spark for the last two months. 128/10.4 is a good speed. But, as I keep asking them, why is the upload at max speed and download about 1/2 or so. No one been able to tell me. They just keep saying they'll send a service man out but might cost us about $150, which we don't have. |

Its mentioned because if they came out and the problem is with some of their hardware or lines then they pay the repair cost, BUT if it something wrong with your computer or some other outside interference then its your problem. Had a call sometime back for example guys router, computer doing all sorts of crazy things - the problem was a faulty Multi box.( cheap warehouse jobbie). |

| 1410585 | 2015-10-29 07:23:00 | Did the computer tech have his/her own device that they connected to the Spark router, that also got the slow download speed? Yep I got his readings, 48.64 down & 23.54 up, so pretty close to mine. |

Just as an example, my 128/10 that I was getting earlier has right now @ 8.55, just dropped to 37/10, that's expected due to internet TV and the ISP's cant handle the heavier loads, theres no obvious lag so no big deal. If I try tomorrow morning (which I will) it should be back up like before. At the earlier test I was also downloading a W10 Upgrade. |

OK so you know it's not your computer and has to be something with the Spark equipment or the connection itself. I would be logging a fault with Spark and let them know you aren't getting the speeds you are paying for. We are on a 200mbps down, 200mbps upload plan on our fibre at work, with a local provider in Whangarei, and we get those speeds and then some. We also never have any slowdowns in the evenings. One of clients had an Orcon fibre connection which was supposed to be 100 down 50 up but they never got anything over 60-70 down and 40 up. Many calls to Orcon and router replacement etc, as per Orcon's request, never got it fixed. They kept blaming the customer's network gear and server. The customer eventually got fed up and changed to the same local provider we use and they immediately got better speeds, downloads got to 100 and over, and uploads got 50 and over, on the 100/50 plan. |
