| 1410328 | 2015-10-22 21:28:00 | Hi guys. I have a HP laptop which I bout about 2-3 months ago. A while back now I upgraded, I know I should not have done so, to Win 10. Computer is running very slow. I've run CCleaner and cleaned out best I can. Was wondering is it possible to reload back to factory spec's? I still have the 8.1 on the backup drive, thingee, but don't know how to reload that. Thanks, Ian |

| 1410329 | 2015-10-22 21:52:00 | Windows 10 will more than likely destroy the option to run the recovery partition by pressing a certain key to activate it ( had this happen twice last week). Suggestion, save all data, wipe the drive clean, reinstall Windows 10 from Fresh, you don't enter a product key when prompted, click either Skip / Do this later, since W10 has already been installed it will automatically activate from the motherboard already being registered. What you may fined is W10 is actually downloading at least a GB of updates in the background, while this is happening the computers run like a car with 4 flat tires. I personally manually fore the updates which usually I allow a day for, to install and sort themselves out. Almost every single problem with W10 I've had, has been from computers that have been upgraded from a previous Version of OS, do a fresh install and every time they run a lot better. If you wanted to put W8.1 back it will take longer as there's a mountain of updates, and unless you stop the prompts you WILL get bugged by the W10 update again. I still have the 8.1 on the backup drive, thingee, Is it a drive clone or Image backup ? |

From my experience 10 runs as least as well if not better than 7/8 on equivalent hardware. In most cases the upgrade goes pretty well, I've seen a few cases when it runs a bit doggy, usually to do with some software that's on the PC (think HP bloat) or just general clutter. A clean install always runs better. |

| 1410331 | 2015-10-23 04:50:00 | Seems all good, apart from updates, of course. Now that it's fully Win 1o and not a hybrid, can I now delete the Win 8.1 backup dater off the D drive and use that foe a backup drive? |

Now that it's fully Win 1o and not a hybrid, can I now delete the Win 8.1 backup dater off the D drive and use that foe a backup drive? Are the backups image files, or just files and folders ? You should be able to simply go into the drive, select and delete what ever. |

| 1410333 | 2015-10-24 00:17:00 | Thanks guys. All seems good to day, shame I'm not. But have one concern, I have lappy plugged in, via HDMI to TV and now if I put lid down TV screen goes black. I've looked through all the Settings and can't find one for that? Ian |

| 1410335 | 2015-10-24 04:07:00 | In all likelihood, closing the lid puts the laptop in sleep mode hence no output hence black screen!! Don't think so as I have sleep mode turned off in power settings. Don't matter now anyways.. Was using it, few hours ago and was slowing, again, so I told it to reboot. Well now the HP logo comes up and after a while I can see cursor pointer and thats it. Doesn't go anywhere else. I tried holding shift down, when turning power button on, but does same thing. Don't know what else to do. I'm not feeling well, my son nearly died in car accident last night and still may, so can't think straight. So if anyone can help I'll check back tomorrow. Thanks, Ian |

| 1410336 | 2015-10-25 20:16:00 | So sorry to hear about your son, Ian. I am sure I am speaking for all forum members when I say we wish him all the best. Somehow silly computer problems don't seem so important at times like this. |

Somehow silly computer problems don't seem so important at times like this. Thank you, Linw. My wife and I went over to Hamilton to visit him, yesterday. Looks real nasty, head shaved and clips from one ear to the other. Now he's recovering have to get back to laptop. Be nice is some really nice person could pop in and help? My minds all over the place and can't seem to do a thing. This morning could barely get outa bed, my back is so very sore. Got tied coming home and at Matamata my wife took over driving and spare seat not good. In real bad pain, today....... Ian |
