| 1410165 | 2015-10-19 08:59:00 | Having now just got around to resurrecting our WR1043ND and putting OpenWRT on it, I'm now baffled as to how to get it online. Chill mentioned VLAN tagging but how on earth do I get that set up  | pcuser42 (130) | ||

Chill mentioned VLAN tagging but how on earth do I get that set up  What hardware a 1.8 or. 2.1 version? The answer changes depending on the hardware. I have one of each. And even though others have had success could get neither of them to work with either gargoyle or openwrt installed. I even had a friend who's a gun on networks attempt it and he couldn't get it ether. It should work....but neither of us could get it going. I was going to get a mitrotik router board to do the vlan tagging but was able to achieve the same thing by vlanning my ex corporate 24 port switch. On a v2 hardware. I believe you create a new vlan call it 10 and tag ports 5 and 6. The 1.8 hardware I can't remember the settings |

I'm currently only using those for wireless APs, with primary internet connection going through a 1.8v WR1043ND running gargoyle. VLAN tagging is being done through ports 23 and 24 or a Cisco 2900xl Switch. Though in doing that I did notice a speed drop over the spark supplied modem, probably because the gargoyle is doing a lot under the covers, but I dropped from 90mbps to 60mbps. But since I was used to 4mbps for the past 5 years, I'm still happy. |

| 1410170 | 2015-10-21 02:48:00 | So Gargoyle basically doesn't support VLANs. If you manually add it to your networking config it'll pwn the files any time you make a change in the WebUI. I'm currently working on a plugin though to get around that but I've barely started to be honest so it's likely a long way off. OpenWRT has VLAN support baked in to LUCi though, it's not too hard to get up and running. You've gotta create the interface and then set it up to be PPPoE. Gargoyle / OpenWRT used to have issues back in the day with older hardware due to a bootloader issue on the TP-Link hardware itself. They've since worked around it, and they're _insanely_ easy to get going. I've also tested NAT throughput on mine and it'll happily do 100mbps without missing a beat! |

| 1410174 | 2015-10-21 06:57:00 | OpenWRT put a fix out a while back, or alternatively if you were in a hurry you could flash a German firmware which updated the bootloader and _then_ you could flash OpenWRT / Gargoyle :) Not required any longer coz the fix is in OpenWRT (And subsequently Gargoyle as a result), but man were those fun times figuring that one out... :P |
