| 1410132 | 2015-10-18 01:28:00 | 10240 is the only current public, release build. The others which are newer builds are currently at 10565, BUT these are preview builds, for TESTING ONLY, they have bugs in them, features turned off, often unstable and are time limited. An example, the way its delivered - 13 pages on the MS forum: blue screen errors during the download or install of build 10565 Just one of the common occurrences. Once the Testing versions, Preview builds are what MS consider " good Enough" they will be released to the general downloads the same way as 10240 was. So expect ANOTHER 3+GB upgrade. |

| 1410135 | 2015-10-18 05:38:00 | Hi W T, For those of us who have not yet installed W10, do you recommend that we could update now or still leave it until more bugs are ironed out?? Smithie I'm not going to say yes or no outright ------ Welllllllllll this is my own personal Opinion - From all the windows 10 installs I've had to fix, each and every one has been on an existing upgrade from a previous Install. 100% of the time after the data has been saved, and windows 10 put back in from fresh, the systems have been "reasonable" in the stability area. There are of course some cases that software does odd ball things or simply doesn't work as it should, but I guess that can happen with any OS at any time. My biggest bug bear, and many others have also said it is the Automatic Driver updates. There has been sometimes they have been a blessing and gotten something working, others they have caused problems. Personally I have two workshop PC's with the preview builds and two with 10240, they sometimes do weird things and some of the diagnostic software I use wont always work correctly on W10 :illogical But after a reboot work fine again ( for 5 minutes). I have one Computer in the Lounge that's got W10 on it and its rock solid, its only a play PC so no big deal if it all turns to rubbish. My Media Center, WILL be staying as Windows 8.1, quite simply because its setup with various programs to play all sorts of Media, and currently W10 simply wont cut it. I say that because going by the workshop PC's and testing software some settings and programs that are on both get completely stuffed every time MS change something with updates in W10. My work/ Office PC's --- I may change them, but I'm in no hurry, as W7 works fine. "IF" I do it wont be till sometime next year. Although I may over the up and coming long weekend clone the HDD on this PC, upgrade it to W10 and then drop the original W7 HDD back, that way at any time in the future the Motherboard is already registered for W10 and the OS could be changed at any time. My best advise --- If wanting to change to W10, image or clone the drive first with what ever OS you have. Then do the upgrade, try it - if you don't like it for what ever reason, simply drop the image back, and you are right back where you started. And that my friend is the end of today's worldly advise ( for what its worth) :P :D  |

| 1410136 | 2015-10-18 06:31:00 | Hi W T Many many thanks for your comprehensive reply. I would have been happy with a simple yes or no to my query, but to get a comprehensive and unbiased reply from you makes the decision much easier. I have W8.1 and very happy the way it performs so me thinks I will leave the upgrade till next year. Your suggestion to clone the drive first is a good one which I will take on board when I upgrade. Cheers Smithie |

| 1410137 | 2015-10-18 06:41:00 | Hi Smithie, As I mentioned I wont say yes or no. Quite simply because everyone is different, has different hardware, and has different likes and dislikes. :) Some love W10 others have called me and simply said get this rubbish off and put back the previous version. Had one last week, insisted I put back their W8.1, (one reason was with W10, their internet usage went through the roof & so far every month exceeded their plan) they couldn't run the rollback as W10 had been on longer than a month and the option to reverse had auto deleted. |
