1401953 2015-06-04 08:21:00 1995 Suzuki Baleno. Overheated once and as a result broke due to user error, apart from that been totally fine. pcuser42 (130)

Rock solid since the day I brought it, no issues at all runs like dream beautiful car to drive.

1401957 2015-06-04 21:21:00 '96 Corolla. 184,000km.
Had the cambelt, 1 engine mount and front brake linings done so far.

Husband had '86 Datsun ute. It had:
Steering box, gearbox, clutch, shocks, springs, water pump, oil pump?, alternator um, I forget - pretty much everything except diff and motor. It had done around 650,000 or so, so can't complain.

Sons '93 Corolla is on 385,000km now and has had:
2 x wheel bearings, 1 x CV joint, 11 tyres, clutch, 2 x engine mount, radiator, suspension arms and back shocks are stuffed and will need doing sometime.

Husband has '96 Corolla now. About 240,000km.
It has had radiator, tyres, and needs something now he can't figure out.
I reckon spark leads, he changed spark plugs and missing became worse not better. He went off on a tangent and concluded injectors. (nah...)
Still arguing about that one....

1401960 2015-06-04 23:30:00 My earlier Nissan Avenir 1992 had issues mainly in the front end. I think due to the clunky bulky design of the SR20 engine. I often replaced CV's, tie rod, steering boots, mounts and the R/H strut bearing - took a while to diagnoise that one. The spring was turning about 20 degrees rather than swivelling on the bearing. Gave a horrible shudder at very low cornering. But solid durable engine and gearbox.

Current 2002 Odyssey, the gearbox failed after a christmas vacation, a round trip of 650 Km (at 124, 000 km) with clutch pack failure, clogging the lines. Apparently 1999 - 2003 Odyssey (and some Accords/Accura's) had durability issues (en.wikipedia.org) of the clutch packs after a long trip - worldwide issue with 100's of recalls. Particularly in the USA and Canada, because of long distances driven by owners.

The Catalytic converter (CC) also failed during that trip (marble tin can rattle), the internal ceramic structure disentegrated. So mate welded in a resonator. But...a side effect was low idle surge a week or so later. Back exhaust pressure had blown CC material and jammed open the EGR pintle valve (gave too high a "on command" voltage reading at idle, and scan code said P1491 -"insufficient valve lift"), causing excess air in the intake (like a vacuum leak symptom). ECU responded by dumping/or increasing fuel trim to compensate. Net effect was rythmic surging - and fuel odour. I had to scrape and blow out the CC material from the EGR ports, and the EGR itself. Came right.

Now about to replace the O ring and inner base seal in the distributor, as getting oil leakage. I switched the O ring (cheap chinese aftermarket), but a little thin, need the OEM's. Gotta do it as oil is causing the rear coolant heater/air con hose beaneath it to swell a little. Off to honda today to buy seals then tear down the dizzy, and maybe test ignitor, and internal coil. Why still have bulky distributors? They should go - been around for over 50 years...

1401961 2015-06-04 23:58:00 1990 Ford Laser, 220,000km , so good for another 100,00K :-)

repairs Ive done: clutch,1x cv, rear brake cylinder, 1x shock .
+ Cambelt & waterpump & associated seals , as a precaution as I want it to last after spending $1000+ on the above repairs.
Its from the era when there is no car computor, manual wind up windows etc so no expensive electrics to cause any issues.

Id like something newer, but I dont want to borrow $5K to get a worthwhile upgrade .
I think next years its classed as a classic (25 years) so I get cheaper rego ??
