2015-10-13 12:31:00 | Very often, with much plugging/unplugging of the cable, the socket becomes detached due to the solder pads breaking away from the pcb inside the external drive casing. Tricky to resolve but you may be able to get a replacement pcb. Recently happened to me, so I have removed the drive and installed it in my desktop case. Works fine.

2015-10-13 19:45:00 | @Beetle - I've got 14 external drives all USB3. The cables are a waste of space. I could pop one in the post if you like | BBCmicro (15761) | |
2015-10-13 22:21:00 | Is it making any clicking noises, or sounding like its spinning up-stoping & retrying ? Has the drive ever been dropped ? Before you go any further, decide on just how valueable that data on the drive is. If the data is of great value, keep in mind that trying to get it working you could make data totally unrecoverable . Just a worst case senario, but Ive seen where user has made data unrecoverable by trying to get the thing to work (left the platters too damaged to be read even with head swaps etc)

2015-10-13 23:16:00 | Im not likely to be recovering it myself.............. nor do I want to attack the thing and break or kill it................. the last one i sent to a pf1 famous person and he did wonders.......... :) nothing seems to happen, no lights no nothing. so im likely to go that way again, but if it is just a cable fault that would be great.............I would also go and buy a and HD and save it all again elsewhere so I dont have this prob again for a bit :p a free cable would be very welcome here thank you :)

2015-10-13 23:24:00 | If its the one you got from Me, then dont go dismantling it. I have checked this Morning and its still in warranty. Disassembling it would void that. If its not the cable then any data inside on the drive will be lost unless you wanted to Void its warranty. Try with another USB cable first. The warranty covers the complete unit as a whole, not pieces of it.

2015-10-14 00:45:00 | I've got these cables lying around as I break open my cases a lot but I store them in leave and forget places, so may not be able to track it down. If I do find them, I'd send you one and even an adapter but it may not fit your case but it might keep your drive external if it is the adapter. I should have close to 5 somewhere if others are interested in turning internals into externals. Cheers, KK
