1401962 2015-06-05 01:23:00 1990 Ford Laser, 220,000km , so good for another 100,00K :-)

repairs Ive done: clutch,1x cv, rear brake cylinder, 1x shock .
+ Cambelt & waterpump & associated seals , as a precaution as I want it to last after spending $1000+ on the above repairs.
Its from the era when there is no car computor, manual wind up windows etc so no expensive electrics to cause any issues.

Id like something newer, but I dont want to borrow $5K to get a worthwhile upgrade .
I think next years its classed as a classic (25 years) so I get cheaper rego ??

I keept older common cars for a "fair" few years, because parts were cheap and easily avaiable. However, those parts soon fail too, because of age, unless of course if you overhaul/replace with new. Then possible issues of quality for after market parts, recurring repairs/fixes (even for for DIY's), and time/cost to do so. Other factors may count too, e.g. if car becomes too large for needs, or too small, or styling/practical use now longer appeals, etc.

1401963 2015-06-05 01:37:00 Don't buy a Mondeo if you want fuel economy. I bought a 2008 model with 34K on the clock for $11000 a couple of months ago. 2.3 liter motor average 12.2 liters / 100 Km. Only reason i bought it was that it was marked down from $17000 and it's a run about.. paulw (1826)
1401964 2015-06-05 01:53:00 1990 BMW 535i E34 265000+ kms. Replaced 2 rear shocks and radiator. No other problems. And 2007 Honda Accord Euro 120000km. No problems other than bumper damage inflicted by wife's poor distance judgement when turning. Richard (739)

I had the above 2009 Mazda 3 MPS, which I sold to put a deposit on my house. Still not quite sure if I got my priorities right there. Now drive a 2000 Toyota Fielder (yawn).

1401966 2015-06-05 04:02:00 2003 Honda CRV Sport (bought new), no problems at all

Replaced in February with a 2015 Subaru Forester XT Premium - no problems per se, but the entertainment system crashes occasionally when playing some tracks via the flash drive...

1401967 2015-06-05 07:16:00 2008 Corolla Wagon NZ new. Front shock absorber died. Audio unit has a number of problems and cannot be replaced

Cyabro: can you get a minimal baby buggy in the back of the Swift?

Probably not, boot is pretty tight. Maybe on its side it might squeeze in.

Nice bulky vehicles, maybe I'll progress to a SUV. The Forester seems to be only a 2 litre, or is it a higher capacity? How do you jack up the front/rear end, as standard trolly jacks may not have the reach for the high clearance.

Who said the audio can't be replaced? You can buy standard DIN mounting kits for them.

1401970 2015-06-09 06:38:00 2003 Holden Calais. No issues so far but it's a bit boring. Previous was a BMW e39 540i...that had issues but was well worth the running costs. hueybot3000 (3646)
