512862 2007-01-05 06:30:00 if such a thing exists, is someone able to help me connect it? i have what i need but dont know how to connect it, thanks edelbugs (11722)
512863 2007-01-05 06:45:00 If its wireless networking and not wireless internet, just plug in the wireless adapters, and if they came with drivers, configure them, with their drivers.

Or if u have XP SP2 use the Wireless Network Setup wizard to configure it.

How many PC's have u got altogether?? And what adapters have u got? USB or PCI?

512869 2007-01-05 08:58:00 What is your modem?

AFAIK, the modem supplied by Telstra for cable modem is a Motorola.
If the D-link you have is just a wireless router without ADSL you can plug the Telstra modem (motorola) into the router and use it via wireless.

If you do not have a Telstra modem they supplied you, its likely you are on Telstra PDQ which is via Telecom ADSL wires.

Each computer needs a Wifi card (wireless device). If the computer(s) are connected via cable (hard wired) to router they do not need a wireless device.

512870 2007-01-05 09:07:00 I don't have cable mode, so refer to instructions with Telstra for that.
I think you plug the ethernet cable from cable modem into router.

The computers will have a wifi device installed. When it is running, you double click on Wifi windows or maybe the manufacturer on the bottom right side of the icons. You will then scan for a SSID .. choose the one that is called "under your D link router" and you should get connected straight away.

Since the cable modem is supplied by Telstra and you cannot buy cable modems here, refer to Telstra for instructions how to set out.

For added security you may wanna activate WEP or WPA which is encryption. You can also rename your SSID. When pple scan they will see your SSID and then need to type a WEP or WPA password before they can get access for internet or any shared files folders or printers etc.... Its also important since wireless the drive via or the next door if they intercept your information it is scrambled if they don't have the password.

This password can be set out on the router (for shared net) and also on each wireless device so that you can share a hard drive or a printer on that computer or each computer.

If you refer to the instructions by D Link, it will tell you what the factory login name is and password. Generally you type a number like 192.456.56.34 in the internet browser .. then pop will ask the login name and password (factory password and username is provided in D Link manual), via the menu you can change the login name and password (suggested) and insert details for your Telstra account such as username and password and other settings (provided by Telstra). You can also change the name of the SSID - this is the name of "your computer name you choose" when pple scan, you can also hide it or leave it visible, if you hide it - make sure you know what it is so you know how to type it since the computers won't be able to automatically search it. You can also include WEP or WPA and name the long password you wish ...

If you wish a password for each wireless device in each computer as well, refer to the instructions with that device or generally double click on the icon (bottom right of screen) either manufacturer software or the windows wifi software. Once its set out ....

When a computer tries to access that computer or any it will ask for that password, if you type it in .. or if it is long u can do a cut and paste off a diskette for example (from Notepad), it will auto save this password so next time when you access this computer you wont need to retype. If you have your computer and 3 other computer - then you can have up to 3 combination of passwords - each one to access each different computer you have there and (1) for the router as well.

512871 2007-01-05 09:07:00 connect ethernet from computer to port 1(lan) on router and the ethernet cable from modem into the WAN port on the router
open up web browser and type in the routers ip address(192.168.0.1 )
the default username is "admin" and no password
you should be able to run the wizard from there. You will need the information that Telstra gave you when they connected you
