512486 2007-01-03 23:05:00 Hello, thank you for your concerns, sorry to bother others.
My desktop was dead. It died when I was using it in the morning. It can not be started any more. The CPU fan and power fan may run for a few seconds then power will be automatically shut down. I test several power connectors and found that if I unplugged the ATX12V power connector, then the CPU fan and power fan will keep running, as long as I plug that connector, power will be shut down. I also use another motherboard (same model) to test the problem, it's still the same thing.
Can any body tell me where and what's the problem? CPU? Motherboard? memory card?
Thank you very much in advance.

512487 2007-01-03 23:12:00 Sounds like the Power Supply Unit has croaked. the godfather (11663)
512488 2007-01-03 23:14:00 Are there any beeps form the mother board and if so what do they sound like (also what is the motherboard) as the beep codes can tell you a lot about the problem

If the problem is happening on an identical motherboard that you have placed in the machine to test then that probably rules the motherboard out, (Unless both motherboards are faulty)

There is no beep sound.

The 2x2 connector should stay plugged in. A system won't run when its not plugged in.

I would not often disagree with you GF, but to me these symptoms sound more like an overload shutdown, and the response with the 12v connector removed reinforces that view. There may be a low resistance ground on the 12 volt line such that the PSU drives into it then shuts down as the current exceeds its limits. Could be a blown cap or anything else hung off 12 volts.

Time will tell. :)

512494 2007-01-04 01:20:00 Is the cpu and heatsink properly seated? It could be a faulty Video card, or one that has wriggled in its socket. PENTIUM (426)
